Well, the hairy beast was due his first ever set of shoes yesterday, as on previous posts he's been barefoot up until now (rising 11), but wth the wet ground the various ops he's had etc his feet have gone really soft. Add that to the fact Ive just changed farrier, and he's had to totally reshape his feet as he was far too 'toe-y', and now he's not tripping nearly as much - but obv. still quite footy. So.... new farrier said (I quote) *I'll be back to stick a set on on 20th, but you better have him sedated otherwise i'll not get near the (*&^*&^%(*&%(&%(&%(&% bu88er) so... 11am arrived, OH (I was at work) there, farrier arrived, vet there (happy coincidence hairy beast due his tetanus booster) with a syringe ready to dope him up to the gills. and then.... nothing. He stood like a dope. Vet cracked up and said 'bye! farrier was stunned, hariy beast was fascinated by all the smoke, and very happy with his new clip clops! OH was soo proud of him he called me at work leading him up and down the roade saying 'listen to what he's done!'!!!! Must admit I went up later and brought him out JUST to listen to clip clops! What a little star!

everyone and I MEAN everyone was expecting a show of somekind - in fact OH said he'd never known so many people were at the yard!!!

Ahh that really made me smile. Bless him. Sometimes they amaze me, they shy at the stupidest of things, and yet act like they don't give a stuff about the things that really should leave them quaking. Weird animals are horses....!!

What a good boy. I had loads of problems with mine when i first had him shod. I used to be a nervous wreck the days leading up to him being done. Turned out he was just taking the micky as my farrier kept making his apprentice do him, and thought it was very funny watching him struggle. So i changed farriers and now my lad is good as gold.

That's because he can't feel his feet now you've had him shod.

Why didn't you just put him back into gradual work and let his feet harden up again so he could work without shoes?
