Hi,

I.ve promised my daughters we can enter the bridgend show in the part welsh pony classes and pretty pony class etc, Can anyone advise as what I need to wear, what my daughters need to wear and what the pony needs to wear lol. I've got my old dressage clothes (whether i fit into them 10 years later is another thing!), i've not got anything for the kids yet and the pony has a synthetic saddle and ridden in a standing martingale.

Any advice greatly appreciated as not got a clue!

Thanks

Bridgend show is a county show and will be a bit of a smart place to start if you have never shown before, the Welsh part bred lead rein will be of a high standard and your turnout needs to be correct. I would suggest you look for a small local show for your first outing but will put some suggestions anyway to get you started.

The pony needs to be pulled, trimmed and plaited, it must be in a simple snaffle, cavesson noseband, the lead rein must be attached to the noseband, definitely no martingale of any type.
You can either show him as a show pony, velvet browband required, rider then wears navy jacket or as a hunter pony plain browband and tweed jacket, the handler will wear either a navy jacket and skirt or tweed depending on how you present the pony.
There is plenty more if you want but this will give you somewhere to start, the pretty pony classes may be best for now as showing at that level can be expensive if starting from scratch and it takes time to get the pony going to the standard expected.

a part bred can be shown untrimmed, unpulled and unplaited too or so i thought

Yikes didn't know so much was involved!

You are right there is a lead rein class we were going to enter but didn't realise that you had to have certain dress to go with certain classes. Is there web page you can recommend to let you know correct dress? The only reason was entering here as I live nearby and can walk it although I think we will be sticking to pretty pony class and pony judge would most like to take home - can I stick to dressage clothes for that?

Many thanks for your replies

For a leading rein class I don't particularly like to see Mum/leader in riding clothes, it always looks like she has just jumped off her horse grabbed child & pony & raced into the ring in between her own classes. A better look would be an 'inhand' handler dark/beige trousers & hacking jacket with shirt & tie, riding hat or trilby. Better still would be calf length skirt & suitable boots or shoes with matching jacket & hat.
Pony should be plaited & trimmed in a snaffle as others have said.
Get hold of a few old H&H magazine & look at what others are wearing now the show season has started there should be a few pics.
