I will be taking my 12.2hh coloured cob to our first In hand show next month. He’s a lovely scruffy grey/stawberry roan colour but my partner is talking about paying for someone to tidy him up! I’m grateful that he is interested but I‘m not sure If his beard and ears should be trimmed. I’m looking for experienced advice? Also Please could someone advise me what bridle I should use. He’s Two years old and I’ve been advised by the dentist to use a lozenge lose snaffle bit. Many thanks. 55C6AF81-3EC7-4463-A332-CDCF2B449601.jpeg55C6AF81-3EC7-4463-A332-CDCF2B449601.jpeg

I'm not sure what you mean about trimming his ears?
Be aware that if you trim away the hair on the ears, sound takes on a whole new meaning for some horses.

Can you just use scissors to trim the beard and leave the ears alone?

You might want to post a clearer picture of your cob so people can advise a bit better in how to turnout, it’s difficult to see his type from your pics

Beard off, makes thier head look so much better.
You want to tidy the ears but not trim everything out of them, so trim off any long sticky out hairs or gunky bits. I tend to pinch the sides of the ears together and trim anything that sticks out.
On a 2yr old you can use a white halter unless he is a colt, otherwise any snaffle bit is suitable for a 2yr old so go with that you have/he is comfortable in. Most go for a rubber snaffle with brass rings

eta if you go with a bridle/bit then an inhand bridle with butterfly leather lead is correct not a chain or reins.
