Hi all was wondering if there is anyone out there who lives near Derby. I have just brought a Disco and Trailer ready to compete this winter. I am looking for somewhere to take my boys out for a hack as their first trip for quite a while. Need somewhere with some good hacking (pref some off road) but more importantly somwhere to leave the trailer and Disco...Nothing too small as my driving/turning/reversing skills need some practice. Someone has suggested Shipley Park and Elvaston Castle

Elvaston Castle is lovely, although I'm not sure if its open to the public any more, I heard that it was being sold/has been sold off. I could be wrong though!

I am just up from the Castle, and no it isn't closed, but you need to check what time the car park opens and closes if you come of an evening or early morning, there is parking for trailers which is quite a reasonable area, shipley park is good too.

Shipley Park is far bigger and has more variety than Elvaston, you can pretty much go anywhere, although I always love looking up the line of trees to the big house at Elvaston.

I can ride for 3 to 4 hours from Elvaston Castle, I could go even further if I wanted, in different directions, which gives me loaaaaads of variety, but you need a sensible sausage and be confident in your riding ;)

I like Shipley Park, but dont get the mix of off road on road variety.

The high peak trail is good, miles of off road hacking and several car parks.

Or carsington reservoir is good and has a loop trail for horses that goes all the way round.

Would second the suggestion of shipley, they even have a hitching rail so you can go for a cuppa!
