I needed to clip my horse because she gets too hot with her winter coat and sweats. I gave her a 'bib clip' (as best I could) and I figured while I was at it I would put a shape on her bum. I used clippers from when I was a hairdresser 20+ years ago and I was surprised they worked.

I think the heart on her bum turned out quite well for a first try. What do you think? Do you have any pictures of shapes you've cut into your horse's winter coat?

:)

Most of mine have been the opposite, hair left on!
I have done all sorts over the years, none of which I have photographs of :(
I always used small clippers for 'artwork' usually my husbands, he used to think that his wore out real quick as i was always buying him new ones ;)

Yeah that looks really good! I too usually leave a shape on if I'm doing a hunter clip, I think I'm too scared to clip into the hair incase it all goes wrong! I used to leave a diamond on my PC pony's bum and then shave a J for Jack into it, I'll have a hunt to see if I have a pic anywhere!

Very neat. Well Nell is not yet in ridden work but seems to be even more of a sweaty betty than my lovely late mare. I only used to do an apron or irish clip on her as it was all that was needed really, kept her very hot areas cool. I never did any funky shapes on her bum.
I will probably do the same with Nell when needed, no more than an Irish clip, she is such a yak that my clippers will have their work cut out when I do, not sure I could manage any pretty shapes with all that fluff either! :D

Thanks everyone!

We tried to clip a shamrock shape into the bum of George, the stawberry roan Clyde, but it didn't turn out as well. It's harder to see on her because of her colour and the shape was more difficult to cut.

Well done! My 14.2 had allsorts clipped on during my teens, she was very patient with my experimentation. And its just as well, every year my daughters demands get more intricate.
