First weekend in March plans

Nothing competitive here. Mainly trying to inject my newly gelded yearling with his antibiotics. He is not impressed by injections at all. Hoping the oral sedatives that I should receive today will help, we had to give up yesterday for safety reasons.
I will also be bringing Little Madam home from livery on Sunday. It will be nice to have everyone home again. I just hope they can all behave themselves. Sassy has given herself a go faster stripe down her side that I'm sure wasn't there yesterday night, but she was stabled last night and I've no idea what she could have scratched herself on.
All horses seem full of the joys of spring at the minute. The RS owner is going crazy with many horses behaving uncharacteristically. Mares that don't know each other are bellowing at each other from across several fields, normally placid horses are bringing themselves back to their stables from the paddocks at full gallop, elderly RS ponies are dragging their riders at speed to any available piece of grass or weeds... I'm predicting some lively lessons tomorrow.
 
Not just us in chaos mode then. That's something! The 22yo kids pony threw such a fit he's left skid marks on the concrete, I had to catch him the second time he tore off. At least mine is just being pathetically in love and peeing everywhere 🌈

I'm planning on a sit on Reggie tomorrow and hopefully again Sunday if I have a man on the ground available. He's remembered all the buttons from the ground so far (and a few extra's for added bonus!)

I was going to take Robin out on the forest for an adventure (first of the year) but the road has been dug up with pretty drastic road works so we might leave our adventures until next weekend. More long reining in the paddock.

We've an in hand show at the end of the month so it's time to start getting ready for the show season so I plan to give the lorry a deep clean and check over which will probably take me most of the weekend.

Thank you. I always think they're not especially exciting compared to things others are doing. Progress feel slooooow but I do think in the long run it will pay off. Last week I actually did quite a bit of trot and it was like it's never been an issue. Things are definitely improving although part of that I have noticed is my lesson time zips by in a flash and then the week until the next one feels so long!

Forecast here looks like rain. 'Light rain' according to BBC which means it will be biblical. Which I would not be sad about because I want to give my new waterproof overtrousers a go. :D
 
Boxed over to my friend's place today to borrow her arena, do a cool down on her farm track and pop a rug back on her warmblood as friend has a bust leg. Very well behaved hooligan thankfully. The microcob got a free pass because the drizzle turned torrential AGAIN!

Poor little microcob badly twisted her shoe last weekend. Farrier sorted it and she's sound but just feels a bit off. He's out for their normal trim on Tues so might leave her until then.

The hooligan has a group ride on Sunday. I'm hoping they're an experienced group because he's very fit and very bouncy.
 
SJ arena hire today and a very local venue that have just put their SJ out for the season. Want to get them jumping the full course linking the fences together and thinking about pace and turns and stride etc. Scope no problem for the horse, but they still need to understand each other better to jump a nice clean round.

Tomorrow we are still planning on Kelsall gallops. That's about 45 mins away so a bigger trip out but today is literally just around the corner so doesn't feel like an actual trip.

3 weeks to first BE so it's getting exciting!
 
Mylo is smaller than Myka - pic is misleading because they are standing on a slope! Myka is 15:3, Mylo about 15hh and Felix heading for 17hh.
 
Lesson done. Feeling a bit weird. The big horse I often ride is going to retired soon, stepping his work down now to mainly walk lessons with a bit of trot but I imagine he'll be fully retired at some point in the not too distant future. It's the right thing obviously, just feel a bit sad about it and frustrated I wasn't able to do more in the time we've had together.

Tbh I feel a bit crap but that's because I haven't sports psych'd myself to remember that it's fine (actually good) that I got nervous in my lesson, I'm still chipping away and enjoying myself in the process, and that lots of the stuff we did do was quite good (got some more shoulder in steps and one of the trot transitions was actually a proper one :) ) The instinct is always to give myself a hard time though and I have to work through it each time. I think part of it is also patience. When it goes well I get ahead of myself and want to move on more quickly, then the small steps don't feel like enough. I want to hack. I want my own horse. But here I am still in the arena, sh**ting my pants over nothing.

I realise that's not the right mindset. Just needed to get that out.
