First weekend in March plans

i took jay out to do some dressage. he had great fun - a shame the judge kept going on about his tongue being out. it's not a resistance - it's just his habit. he is 28 and will hopefully make 29 in may. love my boy

My trailer training went SO WELL. I'm not going to say I'm a trailer reversing savant but it really wasn't as bad as it was made up to be 😂 only one dangerous fault on the drive portion where I pulled out in front of an R driver at a roundabout but who hasn't done that at some point and I didn't panic about it either. Delighted!!

Has ruined the normal Sunday hack plans tho!
Have booked full days training and test for the 18th 😈😈😈😈 I am getting this DONE

We had a good couple of lessons at my trainer's. Our next competition will be the champs at Addington in mid-April so it gave us a chance to focus on me (trying to get my legs and body to stay in the right place through all movements...it's definitely a work in progress) and general quality of work. Sammy felt good and we kept the sessions short, he doesn't need drilling and my priority is keeping him happy. I'm a bit scared to share any vids with all the dressage comments elsewhere on this forum...

Hacked yesterday, which was pleasingly uneventful with respectful drivers and friendly lycra-clad cyclists!

Well totally failed to inject the antibiotics into Pippin. The oral sedative may as well as been carrot juice for all the effect it had. On the bright side, I've been able to hose his wounds down and take his temperature, so all looking good on that front. I phoned the vet who said to just keep monitoring for now. Hand walking him is "fun" and I'm pretty sure airs above ground were not what the vet had in mind.
I'm also glad we got the castration done as Sassy now appears to be in season and Pippin is attempting to mount her, not necessarily from the correct end or angle, and clearly doesn't know what his willy is for, thank goodness, but definitely wouldn't have wanted to give him the chance to figure it out.

Little Madam is now back. I picked her up a lot later than planned as I had a work emergency. I was however really pleased that she just self loaded after about 3 months of going nowhere (I have the feeling that teaching two youngsters to load is going to be humbling...). Pippin was overjoyed to see her and crying his little head off. Little Madam couldn't have cared less, totally ignored him and wandered off down the paddock. Pippin is still mostly confined to his box and Sassy was in for company.

Well I didn't sit on Reggie this weekend. But we did lots of long reining with both ponies. The ground is slippery due to the drizzly rain we have had for the last few days, OH was busy so no man on the ground, saddle not sitting right (popped different saddle on which looks better with polypad) - OK just making the excuses to not do it which is ridiculous I know.

Before OH gets involved in another job this evening I'm going to grab him to be my man on the ground while I hope aboard - putting it off is doing nothing for my nerves/anxiety.

And I've managed to start the deep clean of the lorry - the cab is sparkling!!

So SJ arena hire on Saturday was good/mixed. One of those sessions where the very beginning was too good to be true - just jumped beautifully and quietly around the course set at about 90, lovely to watch, looked smooth and flowy, daughter happy. Should have just gone home then (15 mins in!)! Second attempt was OK but quite a bit of canter lead fiddling, and third attempt they looked like they weren't having fun at all - just not as flowy and connected, strides not quite working perfectly etc. So daughter was a bit fed up at this point, she is very self-critical and as she's not been doing much competing all winter, she can get very stuck in her own head and I think focuses too much on problems and too little on outcomes sometimes. I mean yes for sure that is what training and arena hire is for - to work on issues and fix problems, but actually we had an almost flawless first jump round, so it was a bit of a shame to focus on the negative, but heyho. She was able to reflect a bit later on and see the positives, and reality is we've had the mare since November but only really been working her properly for about 2 months so with all of that in mind, we're WAY ahead of where we would have expected to be, in every sense.

Anyway, yesterday we were at the gallops and it was the perfect thing to do - blew away both their cobwebs I think, daughter got a really good feel for her pace over longer canter stretches and up into the gallop, mare seemed to be loving every minute and it was just what was needed at least to get daughter out of her own head. Big smiles all round 😁.
