First weekend of March plans

I had two glorious hacks out with different friends. The first one was a good hoon around the fields, and yesterday, I went on a gentle jaunt through the village and around some different fields. Riding this weekend is the exact reason I have horses—happy horses and happy humans out enjoying the world.

It was light enough after work on Friday to hack out (I finish early on a Friday), it was very windy so Enormosaurus was a bit tense (OK a lot tense when we had to go past the dog barking and running its fence line whilst going through a bush) but she was a very good girl and kept a lid on her emotions, we just had to stop and process the dog for a bit until she felt safe enough to go past.
Jumping lesson on Saturday and unexpectedly competing on Sunday. I was planning on competing next week, but entries were full within two hours of opening, so decided to go this week instead. We did an 85cm class and Enormosaurus was brilliant, I think it was one of our best rounds, with just one chipping in before an oxer because I let her go in the last stride. We managed 6th out of 19. Enormosaurus isn't very fast (well unless she's so fast it's dangerous!) and we're still working on maneuverability. I don't we'll make it to the championships this year because we're too slow to get enough points and I can't afford (time and money) to compete more to make up for it. Instead, we might try a 95cm before the end of the school year.

It’s fantastic to finally be back in the saddle after 8 months off with Covid/long Covid then a knee injury. I did wonder if it would ever happen. I’m so much better prepared after the simulator sessions, which I’m going to continue with. Even the mounting and dismounting was much easier.
I spy cannock chase - looks incredible.....were the 2 horses wonderful? x

Yes, both horses are part of the Cannock Chase trekking centre team, and they are indeed wonderful ❤️. I’ve ridden both of them a number of times before. All of the 40+ horses there are good.

All of the riding is off road, barring crossing and recrossing a road or two. The routes are very varied. A fabulous and welcoming place.

Sadly my weekend plans went to pot as had a major family emergency (which is sorted now thank goodness!) but have managed to score a very pretty browband for my rising 2 year old's bridle to cheer myself up so I suppose that is one positive.....still need to tackle the reluctance to have a bit in our mouths but putting a plan together with a good friend, so keeping everything crossed that it pays off :)

Passed my C1 driving test!! I'm so excited for this summer with the two youngsters now.
Yay - congratulations!!!

My weekend was interesting...had a lovely ride on Sammy on Saturday morning then gave him a bath and hand-grazed him in the sun while he dried off. Checked the field fatties, all fine. One hour later I got a call from the YO to say Chilli had colic symptoms! I jumped in the car, back to the field to find Chilli looking right-as-rain but Indio distressed with choke. Got him up to the yard, called the vet as it looked pretty bad, went and got Chilli as figured 'in for a penny, in for a pound'. Vet arrived 30 minutes later to two very healthy horses who were mugging me for treats 🙈

At least it was a nice sunny day to be walking up and down the hill!!

On Sunday I got my brave pants on and hacked Sammy down the road, his second road hack ever at the age of 18. He was fab 🥰 despite an idiot with a big IW horse trailer not stopping for us on the narrowest section of the road...
