after lots of ups and down , self doubt, horse doubt, warm blood envy ( soon lost that one !! - like staying on ) and eventual realization that I have the bestest boy in the world. we started all over again and I started listening to him not everyone else ( apart from the nice people on here who gave me lots of encouragement ). Stopped trying to make him into dressage superstar ( we were trying to get to novice level !) - he hated the pressure of more schooling and was getting worse and worse. went back to basics and on sunday he won !! it was only baby test but the comments were lovely and he got 74 % not long ago we could barely scrape 55 in similar tests. love my boy so much - he is safe and loving and trys so hard when I stop making him do stuff he really really doesnt want to do. really learnt a lesson of love what you have, not want you think you want him to be. we are both so much happier now. I dont have the time or bravery to deal with what I thought I wanted and I'm so glad I didn't change him.

I think it is very important to listen to what your horse and heart is telling you. Chester was telling me all sorts of things that I ignored when I first got him, once I stopped listening to my instructor and other less than helpful people on my old yard and started listening to him we have got on a lot better.
He is still cheeky, but we "get" each other now and things are looking much more postitive.
Well done you for sticking to your guns and coming out the otherside.

You are clearly very wise and your boy will love you all the more for it. Wishing you loads more pressure free fun. xx

Well done you

.

It's hard to have to reassess, and sometimes even harder to make changes.

That is lovely to hear, sometimes you just have to be brave and when I say that I mean by taking a step back or two and rewind on a few things rather than swimming against the tide and not getting anywhere fast.

You have remembered the excellent things that horse has to offer you and your grateful for it and enjoying them again, besides what's the rush.

Well Done *claps*
