First year with no mud fever had to share

I have to share this as its so many peoples nightmare. My mare has always had it every winter. No matter what products I tried, though the keretex powder is good.

This year we have so far touch wood not got a scab or mark in sight. Usually its so bad all her her falls out on her white socks.

The secret. Thermatex leg wraps!! thats it. Everynight I hose all the mud off and wrap them round. By the morning they are dry, It also helps them not to be as puffy.

Crazy but true, Anyone else had the same? The lady from thermatex did say it would work but I didnt believe her!

I never leave the mud on, It stings my hands even when washing them so cant imagine how there legs are, I dont hose my greys though, Just my pinks skinned mares legs!!!

we always wash the mud off.

this is our second year on clay fields - really muddy, and not a sign of mud fever on the whole yard of 15 horses

We never wash mud off ours but then it would be rather silly to, because they are still out 24/7!

I leave the mud on and brush off in morning-last year i hosed off and he got mud fever, this year he hasnt got it!!And its far easier for me

tried that geegee and didnt work. Have tried everything and every product. Only on my mares white socks though, never wash my 2 greys and they are fine, she has had it very bad every winter and this year has been a sucess. thought id share my joy!!!!!

I have done exactly the same this year and no mud fever for the first time.

I also apply and oil to his legs to repel mud and water, I did this last year but he still go mud fever but not as bad as the year before.

I would definatly reccomend the Thermatex leg wraps, they are fab and keep him nice and warm too

My mare has had mudfever all year - even when it was dry and I have tried EVERYTHING!!!!! At moment using Flamazine which is useless - why oh why did they ban Dermobian?!?!
