Fit: Neue Schule universal tranz-angled bit

I currently use a Neue Schule hanging cheek tranz-angled lozenge bit. The size I have fits but if it was the slightest bit smaller it would be too small. I would like to buy a Neue Schule universal with the same mouth piece. I am unsure whether a universal should be fitted like a hanging cheek or like a loose ring. Would it be worth going up a size (i.e. from 5.25 inches to 5.5 inches)?

I find I have to go up 1/4 with NS bits if that's any help?
