Short rider problems!! Would you say this jacket's too long? I'm wary to get smallar size as this one fits around my chest and waist but don't want to look ridiculous if it's too big!! What do you think? (Sorry for bad pics and I don't know how to make them smaller!!)

I'm afraid it looks to me like it swamps you - in the width of the arms as well as the length. It's hard to tell but I think the point of the bust is sat too low - I have this problem (short from shoulder to nipple, basically) and went down the made to measure route although I've had off the peg jackets that fit OK as well.

Thanks guys! Going to see if I can return it (still has tags but no receipt and bought a while ago so here's hoping!). Lady in the shops told me it needs to be a bit big to allow movement when ruding but I wasn't too sure but just went ahead as an easily convinced first timer! If they won't take it back I'll be wearing a body protector over anyway so won't worry too much

There's a balance between enough room to move and too much room.

This was my first M2M jacket, it's short because it was made from an American pattern but actually I think it suited us. This was just as "bum freezer" jackets were starting to make an appearance over here. Had no issues riding in it and it fitted closely. It didn't look quite so good 3 stone later - not that it fit by that point!

Same tweed different jacket (3 stone later) - this jacket had been made smaller and had to be let out as I continued to put weight on so realistically it was a bit too tight. For what we were doing though I could still ride in it. You can see it's too tight on the bust and the arms are pulling. I couldn't zip my boots up fully that day :(

If they won't take it back take it to a good tailor to reset the sleeves and lift the shoulder. But if you are wearing it for jumping make sure you can get into jumping position in it. I am only 5 ft tall and tried on a kid's jacket that fitted perfectly. But when I got into jumping position I realised it was too small across the back. I was better off with an adult jacket and getting the sleeves altered. It's all so difficult when you are small!

With how big it is if you can't return it then put your body protector under your jacket to pad it out

I know being a small rider can be the worst when it comes to jackets and boots.. I also keep forgetting I've stopped growing and do the typical thing of thinking I'll grow into something which is too big!

Mark Todd synthetic long boots for kids. Look so good nobody knows they aren't leather, really comfy and £56. You can't go wrong!

Had fun trying on every boot in every nearby take store - my calves are just too wide for the kids ones! And then adult ones are too tall (I have incredibly short calves). Ended up with a nice pair of leather chaps in the end and ended up needing size xs in chaps! The world of clothing and shoes is definitely a strange place 😂😂😂

As a fellow short-lower-legged-person I feel your pain! The only boots short enough for me are the Ariat ones that offer the 'short' option. Not sure about width as I have the opposite problem (xslim) but they do a massive variety of combinations :).
