My horse is needing to get as fit as possible by 28th September. She isn't unfit but I decided t start from scratch so all correct muscles are built and stamina is improved.
Have written a plan, we are 4 days in to it.
Just wondering what other people would do to get a horse as fit as possible within 4 weeks?

P.S. This isn't fitness for competition/hunting, she is having to go to the vets for a follow up and the vet wants her as fit as I can get her so that all problems are as obvious as possible :)

I lunged my horse up and down a hill last night and literally after 10 mins she was puffing like a trooper and was dripping in sweat bless her

Apparently its supposed to be really good for building muscles and stamina but it is really hardwork for them, or so I was told anyway :)

I was about to ask a similar question as I have just bought an overweight and unfit horse!

I need to work him to help him lose the weight, but didn't want to be doing too much too soon with him.

Will be interesting to hear others thoughts on this!

Hill work!! :D

Also got told by RI to canter for one min, then walk for 3 mins three times in the school, changing reins between so starting on left then right then left then done (thank god). But horse has to have the next day off. It is so very, very hard work!!!!
