Just starting to think about devising one as am aiming for a 1* at end of May, all being well.

Wondering if any of you who have done a 1* before would be willing to share your methods?!

I followed a programme for Aldon 2D, but I don't think I had him fit enough, he was flagging at the end of the xc. We did interval training on a 5 day rotation building up to three lots of 7 mins with 3 mins in between.

But it obviously wasn't ideal as I don't think I had him fit enough, so would be interested to see what others do. Not just interested in the canter work, would also like to hear what others do in between in the way of hacking and schooling.

Thanks.

I'd cut it to a 4 day rotation and do 2x 5mins then 1x 7 min with 2 mins in between each. The final canter should include a sprint in the final 3 canters. If you can, find gallops with a nice hill and aim to go up it in at least 2 of the canters.

We did our first CCI* in October and I have to admit I got away with a 6 day rotation which wasn't ideal but was due to lack of facilities.

When I did canter I hired a gallop as fields around us were rock hard. The great thing about the gallop was it was up a good hill which I think really helped.

If I was doing interval training I was doing 3 6/7 minute canters with 2 minutes intervals. When using the gallops which were 7 furlongs I came up them 5 times giving a good pipe opener up the hill in the middle 3 canters.

The time at Weston was 8.30min and the going was fairly deep yet she seemed to manage fairly well.

Don't forget at 3 day level there is a lot more room between the fences and therefore you don't actually have to go as fast as at a 1 day or even 2 day.

In between canters I don't do that much a bit of schooling if the ground is ok, maybe hhack out usually for about an hour and a day off 1-2 a week.

Are you aiming at Chepstow?
