So........
After all the snow my mare has had best part of three weeks off. Popped her on the lunge this eve(just bridle and boots) and gave her 15 mins as a start back into work, but thought crossed my mind how much "work" that actually was? Is 15mins on the lunge actually worth it?

I've got a 30min window in the mornings that I can work her, plus then can do my usual hour in the Eve's, but is it actually worth doing that each morning?
Or can I have my half hour in bed instead :)

Ham, egg and chips on offer this eve as a treat :D

What are you fittening her for? If its just dressage or jumping I think one hour in the evening would be plenty, I wouldnt have the power to get myself up in the morning :P It also matters what type of work your doing in the evening, proper schooling and hard exercises will be much harder work than just walk trot and canter and obviously cantering up hills ect if you want to event

Horseball, ODE, and all RC stuff

Eve sessions consist of proper schooling (elem level) in hand lateral sessions, pole work.

Weekends are 2 hr hacks, jump sessions, gallop training etc

As she is 19 this year want to have her in tip top condition!

I previously needed to get a chubby pony fit for competition with deadline. I lunged him at one end of day then ridden at other to try to speed up the fittening. It seemed to work for him, as could ride him but not into the ground. Probably wouldn't bother if you have enough weeks before competition, just build up the work so fitness increases and horse gets pushed enough.
