Think I'm going to try the pelham tomorrow. I'll ask someone to check it's fitted OK, but can you guys explain to me what it should look like and how it should fit so I can have a go?

Where do the cheekpieces attach to - is it the tope small ring? I'm using roundings, so do they go from the main ring, to the bottom ring?

How tight/loose should the chain be? It will either have a guard on or be wrapped in something.

Thanksies x

It should look like this -

I too am using my rarely used pelham tomorrow. What's the rule about how tight/loose the chain should be? I seem to think it's something like 2 fingers between the chain and horse, but that's not much more than a guess. I'm using the chain with a leather chin strap.

Thank you!

It dpends how strong your horse is and how severe you want the chain to be. the tighter it is the more severe it is? that any help? i have quite a stroing horse and 3 or one side and up 2 2 on the other is good for him but it depends on the horse. Too loose and there is no effect.

Thank you Chelle, I'm back now from the show and I'm happy to say I had v good brakes! My horse went really nicely making a nice shape all around the field.

I did have the chain quite tight as I had a good play around with it when I tacked him up and anything less than 3 rings each side did nothing.

He actually listened rather than going hurtling off into the next county and by the second round I rode him on quite a loose contact as he'd quickly learnt that Mummy had new hidden powers!
