Hi all,

I have a Pessoa and I was wanting to use it when lunging my horse to encourage him to work long and low. I have put it on him on the low setting so he has had the feel of it but to me it looked very loose. I have had a look through the instructions you get with it and well, they were sparce to say the least.

Can anyone shed anylight as to how to fit it correcty as I certainly do not want to be using it incorrectly and cause damage but at the same time I don't want to be merrily using it with it being hee-haw use cause it's too loose.

Hope someone can help - or even point me in the direction of someone that might.

Cheers

I fitted mine loose to begin with and then slowely tightened it over a few weeks(my horse was v gangly and not v fit) and eventually got mine so the ropes still had a little slack in it but he had a contact on the bit clips if that makes any sense. You don't want it so tight that it pulls his head in as in conjunction with the sheepskin part it ill just bunch the horse up without getting that initial connection

As TMH26 says.

You want the sheepskin bit to lie nicely above the hocks and below the bum. Nothing should be tight: the aim of the Pessoa isn't to pull the horses head in, it's to encourage the use of the backend.

Keep it on the low setting for some weeks, depending on how your horse goes (fitness, age, experience), and stick to walk and trot.
