Fitting a Turn Out Hood

I'm looking at a lycra turn out hood for my messy man and I'm not sure on sizing.

He's a 16.2hh TBxID, with very high withers but a narrow chest, his headcollar is a full, but his bridle a cob .......... so do I go medium or large?!
 
Regular lycra hoods are NOT suitable for turnout.

If you want a hood to turnout in you need a Snuggyhood. They have a sizing guide on their website. If you're still unsure, give them a call, they're very helpful and will do any adjustments necessary.
 
Totally agree that lycra hoods are very dangerous for turnout. They move over the eyes too easily and some horses panic- we had one that ran blind through barbed wire, hedges, post and rail fences and was extremely lucky not to kill himself.

Mostly becuase they wouldn't last 5 seconds and wouldn't repel mud and water, probably just trap it under a hot lycra outer and cause some horrid itchyness!

snuggy hoods are much thicker, like wetsuit material - they are much more robust for outdoor use. A thin lycra hood would probably tear in 5 minutes if a horse rolled outdoors in one!
 
because lycra hoods move VERY easily (and would tear etc) whereas I've never seen a well fitted Snuggyhood move

The hoods are fab and I have 6 of them, tried on of their "head" versions once and it was disasterous, half removed in 5 minutes thankfully a horse with a brain who stood still for rescuing once she had been blinded!
 
ETA back to the OP - you will probably want a LARGE Snuggy Hood, I have them on 16.2-17hh TB sorts who can fit either full or cob bridlework.
