How do you fit a running martingale ? Should know but can't think, is it

1] buckle to left side of neck
2] when attached to girth should be able to get hand width inbetween chest and strap to girth
3] hand width between neck and neck strap all way round
4] rings, not attached to reins should reach to
a) withers
or
b) top of neck ?

Please help me. It is being used to stop reins going over head when he head shakes.

Number two I believe, also when rings arent attatched to reins they should reach into crook of throat/head I think.

the rings should go into the throat and there should be a hand width between the chest to allow movement

As you said with other parts. But I thought.

Running martingale. Outstretched hands breadth between end of ring and wither. Thumb on end of ring and little finger on wither. Hand spread out as far as you can.

Standing martingale. End of martingale upto where there horses jaw meets the neck. ie where it changes angle.
