*'on' horsebox lol...

Hi there everyone, I'm after a bit of advice please if you don't mind. Below it's picture of my new horsebox. It's a vw. It's been checked over and is totally sound however i'm a bit perturbed by the breast bar. Obviously it's forward facing and I was planning on travelling my 16.3hh Irish sports horse by the wall. However after all these horrific incidents involving horses trying to jump inside the box I was thinking of getting some kind of solid gate installed there with an anti-weave grill. Obviously there is also a centre partition there which wings in, hinged from the back.

Firstly do you think this is necessary and where could I get it done? preferably in the oxfordshire / buckinghamshire area.

Thanks

I don't think a horse will to jump in to the front, except that the door might cause them to try to "escape" but the barrier looks rather sharp edged, would it not be normal to have the front barrier to floor level?, also means you have a storage space.

congrats on your new horsebox :D

I agree with you, I think I would like something there just in case. God forbid he came over, he could end up on your head!!
Anti weave bars are a good idea, Id be tempted to make the bit below the breast bar solid and have antigrills that will pivet so you can swing them out of place when loading unloading. I cant see it being that difficult to fit them to the breast bar/side wall

There are sliding doors which close over the space to the cab which is handy.

The breast bar is surprisingly not sharp, rounded aluminium however I would want something solid below and preferably a grill. Only necessary on one side really as I wont be travelling with two due to weight restrictions.

I just don't know how I would go about getting it constructed, and who might do it.

I'm going to have a little gloat now. Horsebox only cost me £350!! The girl who sold it me thought it was fit for scrap. Only needed a propshaft refurb and welding to the exhaust and was good as new! had two professional checks done on it too, just to be sure. Floor is sound. Chuffed with the little box.

bumping this thread as wondering what you did to your box - i just bought a 3.5t forward facing sprinter with a fixed breastbar thats open underneath - looking at either closing underneath OR anti weave bars - and would you have anti weave with it open underneath???

bar is high at 4'4"
