Five feet for the price of four...?

In the womb some times a dominant twin will take all the resources from the placenta stunting, & eventully abosrbing the other twin. Parts of the absorbed twin can sometimes still be evident on the surviving twin. . Perhaps this is the case & the horse has a small, non functioning hoof protruding somehwere which needs to be removed.
 
Have a feeling they mean the opp to go from stallion to gelding. Trying to get round having to say that. Or it just needs to be put down if it really does have an extra foot.
 
On his left hind there is a kind of lump. It's probably not a fully formed foot, more of an odd digit.

But surely if selling a freak horse you'd give full details!
 
There was a sheep on an old yard I went to that had 7 legs. 3 normal legs, then the 4th leg had 3 extra feet!

I would like to see this horses other leg though :O how interesting!
 
this got me intrigued so i messaged them last night, got a reply with a pic attached this morning. Very strange growth like a giant chestnut growing out the back of his fetlock. it does look like a hoof
 
How interesting, it is more than a massive ergot then? My heffalump horse has monster ergots, almost like handles :eek: the farrier cusses everytime he has to trim them off.

What a shame, he is a neat looking chap.
 
It doesn't seem fair to put the pic up surely? If the seller wanted everyone to see it they'd have put a pic in the ad

Could it be that the horse damaged a coronet band? I seem to remember a friend's eventer misjudged a jump and whacked hers pretty hard, the damage resulted in hoof starting to grow horizontally out of the area above her foot. The result (as farrier and vet weren't keen to do anything, wanting to see how it developed) was a normal hoof with a 'shelf' above it, growing from the damaged area.

If I remember correctly, it did her very little harm, though she retired from eventing, she continued doing dressage for a few years before becoming a successful broodmare.

Nothing in either image (I would show something like that obviously) and I'm curious as to what she's holding in the first image!

This came from a cut on the heel which healed and continued to grow to this size in about 2-3 weeks. He was operated on and it was cut right down to the cartridge. The vets had never seen anything like it, wasn't proud flesh and wasn't cancerous, they called it a unicorn. He never had a problem after not even a noticable scar.

I know this advertiser and they are genuine. Also the advertiser is dyslexic hence the spelling.

Interesting thread! Extra foot or not though, he's a nice little fellow, not badly put together and I hope someone decent buys him. At that price he's a giveaway for someone with time to bring him on. If he wasn't at the other end of the country I'd be tempted myself.
