Five have Fun in Bedfordshire - Keysoe Report with vids

wow baydale, that's quite a weekend

First Marty, who lets you jump the fence first (ever the gentleman I see :p) and then gets teachers pet, due to his politeness? :p
And then the cheeky boys who make your life far from easy :p (especially in the sj!)Although good news about brakes on cal :D
Well, if you're gonna live life, do it on a horse

drat you wizoz, now i'm going to have 'I like big butts and I cannot lie' running through my head every time i see Marty Pants. considering how happily he skipped over the fence before the water, i can totally understand your 'relaxed and trusting' moment to the coffin. the GIT.
i thought Jupe's jumping looked great, except that his 'last fence of the National' approach to the final sj was spectacularly unhelpful of him, i don't think i've ever seen you on a misser before, didn't know you had it in you. anyway, it woke him up before the xc, so all good.
Cal looked back to being an opinionated muppet in the sj i thought, but i'm glad he got it together and started listening a bit xc, nice pony-wrangling equipment there.
i suspect you're having more Empty Saddle Moments this winter and spring than over the last 20 years put together... those druqs really have affected your stickability, so pls can i suggest super-sticky breeches, I've found some and am a total convert. since i'm reliably informed that druqs like those feel like a big dose of 'flu x 1000, BIG respec'.

I'm glad you got my reasoning for the coffin approach, even moreso as I'd been practising over the (very similar) one at Newton on Monday. I've not done a damn good misser for yonks, so it seems only fair that I do one SO publicly and then post a vid of it on the World Wide Web. Enjoy, everybody. :D

It would take more than the stickiest of all the sticky breeches to keep me in the saddle currently, I think. Is it not like skiing where if you're not falling over you're not pushing yourself enough? No? Oh, ok, then I'm just rubbish. :o Humour me for having fun despite landing on my @rse. :p

Sounds like a VERY busy day! Well done, it sounds like a day that is much better than the records say! :)

I like your positive take on it, OIAM. :) When you've been around the block as many times as I have (yawn, old person talking....) you learn to take it on the chin. I'm sure I'll have a better day before too long (ever-hopeful, I am :D).

You gave the Cheekles Propell?! Nutter! I can't help but think of Kevin and Perry at their first rave......:D

Not sure where you get your energy from, perhaps you have been swigging the Propell too? Sounds like a good educational day - sometimes you learn the most about your horses on days like this. Where to next?

I know, I know, it seemed like a good idea at the time. They were just like Kevin and Perry on the lorry, all I could hear from SF was Ju-pit-er, stop it! Cal! Pack it in!

I'm thinking I might get sponsorship from a cafffeine-based energy drink company if I mention how I keep going enough times on here. :p V true about the educational day, hence why I'm pleased with Marty despite finishing last. :o Oop north to Richmond next weekend, then Shelford.

LMAO that is exactly what I was thinking, like the time somebody told me to 'oat Touchy up' the day before an event. I just a more energetic and randomly directional horse than before!
Sounds like a day someone 'less demanding' would be pleased with, eh Kermy? ;)

Oh you can definitely see how energetic and randomly directional they both were, can't you? Why would I have thought it would just make them more energetic in a good way....they're 6, life's fun, and Propell makes it even more fun.

Shall we take a straw poll of who'd have been happy with that kind of day? You first, Baggybreeches....:p

Baydale is there any chance I can hire you to come to competitions with me and give me a firm slap round the face before every phase to remind me I have no excuse to ride like a dingbat?! If there's a movement forming to grant you official superwoman status count me in :o

Maybe that's where my future lies, on the ground (insert your own gag there :p), spouting motivational stuff about not riding like a dingbat? ;) I can be hired for special occasions where major butt-kicking is required. :D

I think I'll join TD in searching for your Kettle Chips and gin which I know you'll have hidden away somewhere ;)

You gave the Cheeky Boys Propell?? Are you tired of living?? What the heck possessed you??

So all things considered - drugs for you and speed (well it may as well have been) for the boys, it was a pretty good day. So pleased Smarty Pants has got his mojo back, he really is a dude. :)

At least you got to go XC...... :(

No Kettle Chips and gin on a school night, you'll never get up in the morning. ;)

Remind me next time Jup and Cal are feeling flat that at least they're rideable when they're like that.

Vibes for the pingy ginger pony regaining his ping, shall I pass the Propell?

Most of us mere mortles would struggle with 3 in day and you manage a day after a day in hospital - totally mad!

I wish the propell would have some effct on Sarnie I try it by the gallon and it still the most laid back lazy toerag out!

Marty doesn't look easy well none of them do but a difference between cheeky and plain unhelpful. Hoping to see you in action at Houghton :D Can even offer a groom service if you need it (dressage allowing!)

Sarnie is just wise about what needs effort putting in and what doesn't, no amount of Propell will change that. ;)

I'll be at Houghton on the Friday to do some jumping with Cal, Jup and Ralph, which day will you be stressaging?

Blimey i thought I had a tough day with a 4.30 alarm and two to event! But all those drugs and three?! You are amazing!! Hope not bruised from the unscheduled dismount!

I'm just not great in the mornings, hence why I went to bed so early, not that it made a difference. I'm not bruised as I landed ever so gently on my well padded behind. :D

Wow! Are you sure you weren't on the Propel :p Don't know where you get your energy from!! If that is your bad day it sounds pretty good to me!!
I think Marty would meet his match in B in the big butt stakes mind you! Have fun at Richmond. We are giving it a miss as would be 4 in a row but still have not spent my vouchers from August!!

I should probably be on the Propell or whatever the human equivalent is. *Baydale scuttles off to check the cupboard for suitable supplements* :D

Marty, and B, must look like those elephants backsides we used to draw at school....or was that just me? :o

It was a bit of busy one yes, especially as yesterday was full of chores to be done that hadn't got done on Friday and Saturday.

Marty is a gent, isn't he? :p The other two were like Roadrunner and Taz, if you know your cartoons? ;)

Yes but she needs to check with me re effort levels! I am guessing we will be dressaging on Friday as no huge entries in 3 star.

I can't believe you manage chemo and then riding three. Hats off to you - I retired to my bed the weekend I was on drugs, and forced OH to drive me to pat the ponies!!

What is it they say, you wouldn't recognise the highs if you didn't have the lows? I think the lorry-load of them are just trying to make sure you *really* appreciate the successes when they come (as they surely will).

BFM is so cute, love him - especially his cute little dance in the dressage (although uncalled for!!) :D

The Cheeky Boys sound like they were definitely feeling very cheeky, lol!!

Well done though, i couldnt even do 3 phases on one horse let alone 3 phases on 3 horses after having chemo the day before.....

Fab report as ever, and very elegant dismount! I don't know where you find the energy. I definitely think an energy drink manufacturer should catch on and sponsor you!!

Here's to many more fun reports :D

Whilst I am desperate to write something witty, all I really have banging around my head is the most deepest and utmost respect for you and your attitude towards everything you do. You really are the most amazing role model and when the drugs are all done and you are not radioactive and you are standing on the podium at one of the big Bs you should find all of your posts and collate them and publish them to show what PMA does for people.

OK, gushing over now, but it had to be said :) ...and seriously, PROPELL??!!!!

Hats off to you - I don't know how you do it. Loved BFM's dressage moves and your closer inspection of the coffin. And Cal's SJ approach is interesting! I think it would be me needing the Propell after that lot!

N, I am late to the post as I have to wait for work to have enough time to read them and look at all the vids ;):D

Great report as always and I reckon you must have been on the Propell too, seriously don't know where you get the energy from. As always you are an inspiration to all, showed R the vids and she said if you ever fancy a holiday down South you can come and get her and her crew ship shape! :D

Everything needs saying has all ready been said so:

Hats off to you nutter! Feel free to come and arse-kick in Aus (hint hint) ;)

Passes the choccy biscuits, and digs out the remains of the bottle of white.

Thanks, Felicity, I'd love to come and visit Aus and do some "motivational" :p work with maybe some time off to visit local vineyards. ;)

ROFL at this thread! Now I have an image of Kevin and Perry on speed singing I like big butts  :D

Great report as ever, I don't know how you do it, but I now know how to wake my cob up :D

That's very funny and will be stuck in my mind for ages. :D

I should get sponsorship from Propell at this rate. :p

Well, when I say five have fun, it was more like two had fun in Bedfordshire and the rest of us wished we'd stayed in bed. :p

I'm not sure what to think about this. I think that one of the two who had fun must be SF, who so kindly rescued Thistle's cake from a grisly, over-travelled fate.

The other of the two may be Jup, because he discovered a potential new career as a racehorse, and shot rapidly to fame for providing the Lesser-Spotted-Baydale-Misser (a protected species).

It can't be Cal, who found the XC far too easy and probably thought that it was not worth getting out of bed for.

I would consider Marty for no.2 because, as you said, the earth moved for him (!!) and he does look very cute.

But maybe it's you - fab report and thanks for posting the vids!

Fab report, sounds like a positive outing all round. If only the Cheeky Boys would manage to behave for all 3 phases on 1 day! Good luck for next week, hopefully another confident run is just what the CBs needed before Richmond :).

It's a nicer type of chemo though, not the up-chucking, lead-legged, take-to-your-bed variety. :D

I read that as the lorry-load of lows I'm having when I didn't think I'd been doing so badly. :( I hope you meant the lorryload of horses? :o

Thanks, Tempi, but cute doesn't seem to count for much if you're a dressage judge. BFM and I have been out there today doing canter on-and-backs and 10m circles until "we" kept all the legs in the right order and underneath his big fat bottom. :D

*Baydale bows* I'm glad you thought it was elegant, it was certainly painless which is the best kind of dismount. ;)

I'd like to think I might in future write fun reports that also have mention of rosettes/prizes. *Baydale sighs, wistfully*
