In your opinion which allows more finesse in terms of rider-horse communication - a fixed cheek or loose ring snaffle?

I understand fixed cheeks (eggbutts & hanging cheeks) allow a more direct action and less "white noise' kind of movement but loose rings have more movement in general.

I just wondered whether you would be more likely to move a more educated horse from an fixed cheek to a loose ring or vice versa....

I tend to use a full cheek for young horses then loose ring once they are more established but the rider needs to have the ability to maintain the contact correctly. I do not like hanging cheeks and never use them.

I agree with be positive - fixed cheeks are good for young horses/those which are fussy in the mouth and require a bit more stability. I prefer loose rings though as they prevent the horse from leaning on the bit (to a certain degree) and you can offer a much more refined aid.
