topline, topline, topline...nearly set my horse on fire....!! Def stop feeding these....use the baileys working horse cubes...they are just as good conditioning wise but have less go power behind them...told by the baileys advisor today...
My vet friend told me she wasnt surprised when my horse kept bolting out of the stable..she asked what I was feeding him and raised an eyebrow when I mentioned top line....said stop at once, its a feed really for high performance horses as it does have alot of fizz...my horse calmed down within no time...he is now back to his lazy, slowly does it self and I love it :0)
yeh thats the problem i am feeding for weight gain!!oo interesting about the topline...i will change!grrr why does every weight gain thing that work make my horse loopy?!!!
have you tried the baileys no1 -cooked cereal meal its like porriage and is brill for weight gain & condition....it does not make them mad either...some people say it is better then feeding the sugar beet and chills the horse out more...
Also I was advised to feed small meals about 4/5 times a day..if you can...this helps with the movement of the gut and helps with digestion....makes sure things are going in the right place...outshine should be fine if you stop with the topline..
Haylage is good as it is high cal but is water based and can make them loose...but again a good one to consider..not ideal for old horses apparently...!!
Allen and page have old faithful which was good for my old mare and keeping weight on...might be worth giving baileys a call...they are brill and go through the details and then send you out samples and the advise given over the phone for you to keep.....
good luck with it...I have an old pony who is thin and its hard work isnt it...!!
