Well its that time of year again! Those of us who are fortunate enough to have good doers through the winter feel the effects come springtime!!
Heres my mare at around this time last year for comparison -

And now today -

I must have had the camera wonky for this next one, unfortunately for me she isn't built this uphill (or at all....)!!!

She really does have grass in her (massive!) field, I just chose to feed her in the most barren spot :s I'm currently waiting for the supermodels to munch down her summer paddock and will move her over next week (along with muzzle and extreme exercise bootcamp!!).
Im pretty chuffed with how shes looking at the mo though, just need to get her toned up a bit more. Please feel free to pass judgement, i'm not proud!

How is everyone else getting on with their fatties? Any hints/tips for the rest of us struggling :p

EB and the Beast.

Lol, last year she definitely wasn't at her worst! She had a ligament injury 2 1/2 years ago which means that its really important to keep her slim so she can carry on with normal work. She balloons up even after just a sniff of good grass, so have to keep on top of it right from the beginning! :)

I wish mine was looking like she is now. My vet wants us aiming for 'skinny enough that other people think she's too skinny' - we can't have another laminitis bout basically. Unfortunately, I've never really seen her ribs in the 12 years I've owned her... she looks at grass and balloons. :(

Need to get her working harder... I will take some photos of her soon though so I can see the improvement over the last 2 months.

I know exactly how you feel! I've never seen Els ribs in the 8 1/2 years i've had her! I can still barely feel them how she is now :s
I really do find taking regular pics helps with the process, whether it be to spur you on or to give you a kick up the bum! Good luck with it! I'm definitely going to be needing some when i move her to her summer field!!

I've been successful with a track system round the paddock, and I've just bought some Naf Slimline to try to help things along too. My mare tends to put weight on everywhere but over her ribs, so even when her ribs are visible she has a big neck and backside

She had laminitis years ago so have to be careful, although I find that once the weight is down it is easier to keep them slim.

Well done getting the weight off yours, it is a constant battle once the grass starts isn't it!

Shes looking lovely! I also have a very good doer and its becoming a bit of an obsession watching his weight. I weigh tape him weekly and ride as much as I can. The summer field is huge and there is so much grass and I'm dreading when the farmer says he wants them moved...I have a muzzle at the ready and am in discussions about electric fencing but the farmer hates it. Doesn't help that his fieldmate always stays a decent weight regardless of the grazing, his owner thinks I am a complete fusspot stressing over it as he looks ok at the moment!

My girls are underweight...my grass just isn't growing and they are still on big 'weight putting on' feeds and horsehage. I'm even feeding my shettie who has had lami in the past :(

My haffie is prone to losing weight in the spring but my shettie and NF are usually good doers.
