I am a self confessed drama queen so bear with me!

I have been noticing on my new pony (only had her 3 weeks)that her skin is very flakey- almost like the worst dandruff ever- BUT its not on her back etc, its around her mane and under where her girth goes.

I havent yet ridden her so it cant be sweat etc.

Ive also noticed shes very thin haired around her face, almost like shes loosing too much hair and leaving her with grey patches?

Any ideas?

My pony had very similar condition...I managed to find a shampoo and oil product called 'stop it all' go to www.karenruggles.co.uk
It was fantastic and has stopped the dry bit completely...it even promoted hair regrowth in my other horse..really great stuff

I would reiterate amymay re the oil, vegetable oil may be good enough, a generous glug to her feed. Good brushing, particularly with a rubber curry where you can. Use mild soap when bathing and don't bath too often as it strips the natural oils from the coat which can cause dryness. Really thorough grooming will stimulate the coat, and I mean thorough! If your arms ache, keep going and feel the burn! Don't worry, the coats are changing at this time of year, it may just be that. Good luck. x
