Was giving Spook a quick once over today and noticed in his armpit, he has pink skin there and its a bit baldy about 4cm in width and 2cm in height. Some of the skin is a little bit flaky too.

Any ideas what it could be? I've smothered it in Sudocreme for the time being, and will wash it off and get a photo in the morning!

Thank you

It's just where the skin is in constant movement and often sweaty. The 2 things together can cause some soreness. Wash regularly after exercise and apply an antiseptic ointment until it's recovered and it should be fine. Keep an eye on it if your horse is older or grey as chronic damage in the area can lead to ulcers.

My horse used to lie down with his foot in that armpit. It was much worse when he wore shoes, so I knew then that he was doing it with his foot. I have another who does it a bit now, but not nearly as badly. The first one used to have thick flakes of skin that would peel off, showing pink underneath.
