Flaming RSPCA!

I've had bad experiences with the RSPCA in the past, from neglected horses to abandoned cats and a drowning horse. Not once were they any use and I also had a rude person on the other end of the phone - apparently the horses I'd reported had already been reported dozens of times (WHY?) - not by me I hasten to add, and was told that an inspector was unprepared to risk himself by helping move an unbroken horse to it's field after I'd stood chest deep in a river for four hours trying to get it out on my own. It also wasn't my horse.
The abandoned cat we managed to get in a small animal shelter that was already at full capacity, but had more compassion than to turn an animal ion need away.

As for them not being very rich, they spent £16 million on their new headquarters and are one of the richest charities in the country, there is a breakdown of how the money was used in this article:- http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1402352/RSPCA-millions-go-on-politics-and-HQ.html

I still donate to animal charities, just not the RSPCA.

TBH I think this thread would be better directed to 118 than the RSPCA.

I'm with Tickles on this one, can sympathise with you entirely, but when you callled 118 did you actually say you wanted the nearest 'RSPCA' to where you were? In which case 118 were probably correct. They are staffed by people who perhaps are not used to having to think outside of the box to get the number you need they just type in what you say...

Hopping on then off :)

I asked 118 for RSPCA for the town I was in. They put me through and sent a text. I've since checked and that's the number that comes up on a Google search for the RSPCA in that town, so I don't think 118 can take the blame in this instance. The woman I spoke to at the RSPCA tried to give me another number, but I didn't have a pen and wasn't in a good place on the road to stay any longer. That's why I asked if they would pass the message on. At no point did they explain their process, etc., or offer to take my number so someone could call me back. They couldn't transfer me either. I was surprised by the silo nature of an organization that deals with emergencies.

I gave up with the RSPCA after getting really angry with them a few years ago.
My elderly landlady was on her way back from a Dog show (she ran a Kennels and showed a lot all over the country), it was about 1am.
She was involved in an horrific car crash and cut out the car and rushed to Hospital. The Police had not identified her yet so called the RSPCA to collect three very shaken and bruised Dogs that were in their crates in the back of the car.
They refused and the Dogs waited two hours by the side of the road until Police had identified my landlady and found an address and came knocking. My Mum and I rushed up the A38 and picked up poor Dogs at nearly 3am.
Oh it gets better, a few days later a local newspaper had an article that stated how good the RSPCA had been helping rescue these Dogs! unbelievable! grrrr

Hope the Deer was OK.

I have to say i don't bother with them anymore after having no joy with any calls to them over the years. Sadly the attitude has always been "oh, we can't/don't do that". We rang about a stray collie that appeared in a neighbours garden one time - the RSPCA here "don't do dogs" apparently!!! Honestl, I think the most frustrating thing with them is the customer service. If these people are volunteers (I don't believer they all are) then surely they want to do this job and help people/animals but it never seems to come across that way.

I think the programmes that have been made about them (following the RSPCA etc) are very misleading as it makes out they do see every case. It makes me chuckle when I recall an episode when an officer was called out to a house as the persons cat had injured a mouse!!! Yeah right as IF they'd go out to that!!!

I wish they'd put more money towards their services and less towards advertising and dropping junk mail. Or maybe they should put on their adverts the dogs and cats etc in their centres - ie we put them to sleep if they're here too long. They may have more success in rehoming then if they were open about how many healthy animals they put to sleep. I'd rather give my donations to a charity i actually believe has the animal's welfare as its priority.
