My mare is currently on box rest due to lameness (x rays showed slight fluid in her hoof). She's actually sound on the soft and 2/10 lame on hard ground. I'm currently poulticing and she seems fine. She loves being in but over the last few days I've noticed that she's looking tucked up and in particular her flanks look sunken. She's eating, drinking and pooing as per normal, its just her flanks that look a little odd. Any ideas? The vet is back next Wednesday so I'm going to opt for bloods to be done too. Oh, and she's wormed regularly...weight wise she's good too

Your vet will obviously be able to advise - but wonder whether it could just be that she's losing her muscle tone, through being on box rest? Are you able to give her a regular massage (or get a therapist out)? (Found that helped with my horse when on several weeks rest - she didn't lose much tone at all). :)
