Whats the difference between a flash noseband and a drop noseband?

What would you use on a 5 yr old id x tb - broken this year. French link snaffle working very nicely on flat and doesnt open her mouth then as long as you really work her from behind. Jumping though she opens her mouth to pull the reins out of your hands and run on her forehand. She is built heavy in front so obviously finds it hard but she is capable when just working on the flat. Any ideas?

I know what the difference in apperance is but what is the difference in action?

Thank you in advance. x

Flash nosebands were introduced as a modern version of the drop so a standing martingale could still be used with the noseband. I prefer a drop if it is absolutely necessary but do get someone to help you fit it properly. Flash nosebands tend to be too tightly adjusted and so many horses fix and fight against them. Drops if correctly fitted are comfortable until the horse goes incorrectly. The flash supposedly works in this way too but horses seem to object much less to a drop.

I'd retrain, and solve the issue, not just mask the sympton.

So you need to work on gettgin horse off forehand. These are all good:

1. Forequarter yields
2. Backing up.
3. Sidepassing.

There's a few 'how to's' here:

My horse leans / is heavy in the hand...

Good luck, and avoid the noseband, it wont solve forehand issue, but the training above will

More training really is the long-term answer, but if you need one, I'd always recommend the drop.
