I am traumatised that more people think leaving a horse without water or anythnig moving through its gut (the colic was not bad, it gets it becasue it cribs...vet came out and didnt even give her anything) is worse than leaving nylon headcollars on overnight in a stable!

TRAUMATISED!

My livery went mad and said I was trying to kill her horse as I gave it a section of hay and did its water. This is same livery that keeps moaning...I was like

ARGHHHHHH thats thanks for you!

I had to sit her down and explain that in cases of mild colic, having some roughage passing through system as well as access to clean fresh water is actually a good thing....that and getting hysterical and saying she nearly died on Tuesday and is on strong painkillers (1 bute a day for unexplained swelling and mild lameness in pastern) is perhaps a little bit dramatic.

I am having very bad week at yard this week, it would be fine if I had the horses and no liveries...I think they should pay extra to cover my neurofen the amount of headaches they cause!

Thankfully her mild rant allowed me to ask her if there was any issue with the yard, as I had been told about her constant moaning, to which I got a grovelling apology! So its all worked out well really

just ignore her- you did what was right for the horses welfare. some people would rather moan and get over dramatic instead of saying thanks. i voted for 2nd choice x

Completely lost....are you saying not having water and hay caused the colic.....or are you saying that while the horse was suffering from colic you gave it hay/water?

I like horses to have access to hay and water all the time but not convinced that being without hay causes colic because there are many animals on starvation rations (for good reason) on veterinary advice.

If you are saying you gave hay while the horse was suffering from colic I doubt that I would be overly impressed with that. My vets advice was not to give any hay until the horses gut had started moving because all you are doing it making the impaction worse.

It would be easier to answer if I understood what you were saying.

Sparklet, horse absolutely fine, having had a mild colic earlier in the day, was passig fine droppings, not colicky and quite happy,,,, and was left without hay and water.

Vet happy for it to have hay etc!
