I've got a mega flat seated dressage saddle and much prefer it to a bucket seat so I can sit where I want to, rather than where the saddle makes you sit.
I'm very long in the thigh though which makes finding a saddle that fits me quite hard, so maybe that has a bearing on my preference?
You know I am Butet Girl so mine is more flat-seated than most modern dressage saddles and I find it spot on. Because you're ickle I'd think it would suit you better; most "other" saddles are v wide in the seat too - I found that a recipe for sore seatbones - so it's not just the bucketness (made up word ) of them that may bother you.
A saddle with a bucket seat is fine if the seat fits the rider and more importantly, that the stirrup bars are in the correct position for the rider. If however either of these is wrong, there is no way the rider can compensate. It will always show up in the riding position.Too many riders struggle and struggle to improve and wonder why they just cant seem to get it right ,yet others find it easy.If the geometry of the saddle does not match the rider, they are beaten before they start.
I much prefer a flat seat. I had an ideal suzannah dr saddle once and I hated it! I felt perched forward in the deep seat and like I was sitting miles above the horse, I get very restricted by it. I prefer flat seated, almost old fashioned dr saddles where I have the freedom to find my own balance. I am quite petite also and find this style much the best.
Iv spent months looking for a quality 2nd hand, older style dr saddle that has a flatter seat and no blocks and I think I have now found the right one!
i have a medium seat with mine - the deep seat jsut felt too deep
and i'll also rather naughtily be doing local shows in it so wanted to be able to to a good w/t/c/g in it too
I have a Kieffer Lech Profi with a medium deep seat but close contact panels and that suits me just fine, any thing that's too deep and or with mahoosive knee rolls doesn't allow you to change your position should you need too IMO
