flax????

Flax is fab, highly absorbant, easy to muck out, I love it! You can fully muck it out every day or semi/fully deep litter it. I have 2 big beasties on it an I think it's fab.

I tried Flax last year and have to say I wasn't overly impressed. To get the benefit you have to deep litter but at the end of the day the bed looked horrible and it cost me more than shavings even though I bought it a pallet load at a time. When you do your first bed and add more its very slippery, although it is good for the muckheap!. I know some people rave about it but it didn't work for my horses.

use this with rubber mats and get on very well with it. i usually deep litter through the week ( unless the monsters are very wet) and only have to top up with a bale a week.

If they are particularly dirty then they get a full muck out every day.

I LOVE my flax bedding!

I go and collect it from their warehouse near Cirencester in a van and it works out at about £5.50 per bale for 50 bales.

Their website is www.equisupplies.co.uk but it appears to be off-line at the moment. the bedding is called Jopax.

It is very absorbent and doesn't fly around the yard like shavings. It composts down well and does not stink. I think it is superb value for money. The only down side is I found it to be a little dusty but I think you'll get that with most beddings.

For my 17.3h horse who is really messy I used 9 bales to start the bed and then one per week. My 16h mare who is very tidy only needed a top up bale every fortnight, but they have rubber mats too.
