So, we have fleas. I have taken my usual steps - wash everything in a hot wash, hoover, spray with indorex. Baths etc Previously that's been enough.
Historically, my little kidney disease hound has a bout of vomiting after spot on treatment - she doesn't lick it it just seems to make her sick. I also don't think they're very effective these days. So ideally trying to avoid.
Spoke to the vets, they're prescribing more tablets now - supports my spot on effectiveness theory.
They offer simparica trio - one a month tablets or bravecto, one every 3 months.
I thought to get 3 months of each and use one for one and one for the other dog on the basis one might work better/worse on these fleas.
However, I've looked them up for which will be better for my hound and simparica lists kidney issues as a possible side effect (I thought that might be gentler as it's one a month) and while bravecto has found "no link" between the dogs that used it and their onset of kidney issues there's a lot of anecdotal evidence for it and I'm troubled about using it.
One slight good thing is having gone from 11kg she's a steady 9.5kg these days which puts her top end of the size down rather than bottom of the next bracket - I'm always a bit concerned when they're getting a dose for a dog double their size...
I'm wondering, if maybe I could just dose the spaniel with one or the other and hope there is enough transfer of fleas between them that her being "toxic" finishes them all off. Or if anyone has any other bright ideas I'd hugely appreciate suggestions
Thanks

I found a flea shampoo really really helpful. The fleas literally died and fell off as I was bathing and paired with the indorex, that was them gone. I'd been pulling my hair out before that and had no joy with the spot on type flea treatments.

This is one of the shampoo's I used (unfortunately had two bouts of fleas and used a different shampoo each time).
