Flea Treatments

For my pup chihuahua, just been to vets for check and first imms. He has recommended Stronghold, monthly. Going to have a chat with him as I don't think my pup is high risk for fleas because of lifestyle. I don't want to use it that often if not needed.

Avantage or Advocate. Frontline no longer works, and vets generally now refuse to sell it. They recommend these two, and I have found Advantage extremely effctive

Advocate is a very good product. Stronghold is good too. The thing with fleas is you are better to prevent them rather than treat them.

Most spot on products take 24-48hrs to kill fleas on the pet. If you get fleas they can be a nightmare to get rid of, fleas seen on your pet are only a small % of an infestation, with 95% of fleas living in the environment, e.g. your home!

Will speak with vet (no offence meant) but are you saying I shouldn't worry about frequency of treatment and just do monthly as already advised?

Advantage will have killed most fleas off your dog in twelve hours. Agreed, best not let them set up home initially, so flea treatments regularly to protect.

I don't routinely de-flea and would only do so if I actually saw fleas on my dog. In all my years of dog ownership, I only ever had one dog catch fleas (off a cat).
