Is anyone else having problems with fleas at the moment? My two cats were absolutely jumping - never had that problem before! I used frontline on them both last weekend (supposed to kill all beasties within 24 hours) and had to re-do one of them 3 days later because I spotted the little jumping blighters again!

A friend's dog has chews holes (literally) in his fur due to fleas too!
 
Frontline spot on doesn't seem to work anymore, got to your vets and get something else. :)

Frontline spray still seems effective though (not sure if that is suitable for cats).
 
Frontline is ****!!!! Honestly it really is and only kills the fleas not the eggs so it's a never ending circle. I gave up on the stuff quite a while ago.
I use stronghold which kills everything and treats the area around the cats as well. Really rate the stuff oh and it worms them as well but vet only product
 
Yes the spray is alright but again a vet only product. A lot off fuss as well easier to put a drop on them. There is a frontline combo which is vet only and ment to be better but I moved away from frontline after my pure White babies started to get fleas but now on stronghold all is fine again

my dog is chewing huge lumps in herself too, has been for weeks. ive frontlined her TWICE in 7 days to be sure (supposed to do it every 8 weeks) fed her '4fleas' -supposed to kill fleas in 15minutes - *raises suspect eyebrow at THAT claim*

ive even had my dog trainer check her over as i cant SEE any fleas only a few black dots that could be eggs

at wits end. prob try advocate

frontline has really let me down recently :(
 
Our entire house was ridden with them last year. We tried everything bar the injections the vet can give. Frontline never seemed to work. We tried tablets too. I bought a household spray from the vets and sprayed the whole house - with no noticeable effect. I seriously believe the little blighters are getting immune to the stuff.

The vet said that most of the problem stems from microscopic flea eggs falling off the cats and into the carpets and furnishings, and that one of the best solutions was to hoover everywhere - especially in cracks and crevices. So that's what I did.

We also bought flea traps - which work a treat btw - and a steam cleaner for the floors, upholstery and mattresses. We put simple flea collars on the cats and I sprayed them with flea spray too. In the end we got rid of them but it was a slow, itchy process.

I wonder if fleas have evolved to resist the chemicals? I know several people who have had dreadful problems this year and all the usual measures have failed. My friend's been driven to distraction with her infested house: she really tried everything and became quite depressed about it. I think they've finally gone now though.
 
When the fleas start to get too numerous I also spray my carpet and the animals beds with fly spray.

Then vacuum thoroughly everywhere to pick up as many as possible. I find frontline is usually OK just can be a change in temperature or activity around the house.

Central heating going on can encourage them to hatch out.
 
Where I live the fleas are immune to Frontline. They get immunity when a lower than recommended dose is used. The surviving fleas and their offspring are then immune. This is the same with lots of chemicals and it's why we switch wormers. I have found the same thing with the arachnicide I used to use to combat Varroa mites in my bees. Maybe in a few years Frontline will be effective again. I've found Frontline spray to still effective against ticks on both the horses and dogs. I'm sure Frontline will (if they haven't already) have another product with a different active ingredient.
 
I hate chemical fleas killers, I have a dog that is hyper allergic to them and will have grand mal fits if he comes into contact wth anything that has been sprayed with it.

What I have found far more effective is Neem Oil.
I mix up 5 mls Neem with 3 mls of liquid shampoo and make up with 1 L of hottish water and dunk the dogs in that. No fleas or ticks all summer as long as I did it every 3 - 4 weeks.

It also alleviates itching so helps if the dog/cat is scratching from the bites.
What is left can be sprayed on the garden as it keeps all the nasty insects off the plants.

The disadvantage is that it does have a not very nice smell but that disappears after a few hours. I would rather put up with the smell than use chemicals.
 
Frontline works - but ONLY if used properly AND you MUST, MUST ,MUST treat the house. FL is an adulticide only and you need an effective household spray as well, use the johnson's pink tin spray, same active ingredient as the vet's stuff or virbac indorex, both can be bough over the counter.
