so i managed to get a box of 20 tags via vet for £84.
i only have 2 horses lol
does anyone want to buy the rest ? single tag ?
will post for £5 a tag :}

You were robbed, they are £65 on Hyperdrug. Not heard of these before and not sure I would want to put them on my horses. What are the possible side effects of them? And how are they attached?

yes i know they were dearer than online but you need a cattle number to purchase online .
ive used many times before when you could purchase anywhere.
i doubt theres any side effects any worse than many sprays.
as otherewise my vet wouldnt have got them in for me !!
i plait into the mane.
or on a headcollar .....simple.

£44.48 incl vat from Mole Valley Farmers

I'd be a bit scared to use them though, my horse would prob be allergic

mole valley charge postage too and as i said you CANT order from them !!
my tb was covered in fly bites. and 3 days later hes nearly bite free,

hi sorry anyone who wants a couple pm me
and ill send you my address for cash/ cheque or postal order
and ill send asap for you by return post.

WW have pm'd.
I had been trying to get hold of these myself. For those worried the active ingredient is the same as Deosect horse fly spray and is licensed to be used for horses in that form. As with fly sprays it warns of possible skin problems in very thin skinned/sensitive animals.
IMO I would prefer a constant slow release on to the horse from a tag than have the horse and myself breathing it in the form of fly sprays (plus less chance of getting it in the eyes etc!).
I'd like to give them a go..

Used them for years when we liveried next to a dairy farm and bought them off the farmer. Never had a problem and they worked really well!

lol i was asking after such a time has passed, to see how effective they were or not?

anyone who bought, or op, who can feed back?

Flectron tags are used on a regular basis. They aren't licensed for equines, but for cattle. A regulation which most ignore.

How they are applied, is vital. They must be sewn inside the cheeks of a head collar, so that they rub against the horses face. It will take 2 or 3 days before the horse has full coverage, and the horse must wear the head collar 24/7.

The base chemical, is cypermethryn. For cattle, they are offered with a 5 month protection, but for horses, then you may need to change them after 3 months.

So many will tie them onto manes, or the outside of the head collar, and then wonder why they don't work. The tag must make permanent contact with the animal. The chemical is systemic. It will cover the whole animal.

They work well, trust me!!

Alec.

thanks this is what i was hoping for

being systemic, would they work if tied under the mane if long, and sitting on the neck, and or in the tail touching the dock , or would the movement knock any effect out?

also do u need 2 per horse?

You can buy a cypermethrin spray for horses now - most pyrethroids are fairly benign in terms of reaction on the skin

However the tags are designed to be used in a herd, with enough animals to form a good vapour barrier and to actually control the fly population by killing them on mass

Two horses in a paddock will not cut it, plus midges can bite before they get affected by the neurotoxin - so tags are pretty much useless in the case of sweet itch

sorry guys just logged on yes all gone now sorry
you can buy them in boxes from your vet and spread cost between friends ?
they really are worth it
