I'm looking for a lightweight rug - I have no-fills and middleweights, and I want something between the two. I'm stuck deciding between a 100g fill, or a 'fleece lined' no fill rug. I've never owned either, so I can't decide which would be best! If either would do, the fleecy one is cheaper ;)

Can anyone help advise, please?! I just want something that's a bit more than a rainsheet but not as much as my middleweight (not sure what that is, guessing 200g)

Thank you!

I have a 100g and it's very handy as you know they won't sweat buckets if they get warm and it keeps the chill off if needed (wussy TB)

Thanks :) Would you guess that it's warmer or cooler than sticking a fleece rug under a rain sheet?! Just trying to get an idea between the two haha

Bah :)
Ah well, thanks anyway - question still stands, if anyone can help me decide between the two I'd really appreciate it!

I would say a 100g is cooler than a fleece AND a rainsheet but I don't know about a fleece lined no fill.

I have 100gs for mine ( rambo ones ) and they are great, in fact they get used more than a lot of my other rugs as they aren't too warm but keep a slight warmth in (does that make sense)? I've used them on mine when they've been fully clipped in the autumn then the weather gets warmer and they're too hot in their medium weights - they certainly have a lot of uses.

I've noticed that my 100g liners under a rainsheet are warmer than my 100g rugs and the only conclusion I can draw from this is that the air gets trapped twice - once between the horse & liner and once between the liner and outer. I guess this will be the same with a fleece under a rainsheet and that's way I think that combo will be warmer than a 100g rug.

I have a fleace lined new zealand its a horseware one and I have had it about fifteen years its been repaired loads of times all the straps have been replaced and it never leaks, my Arab wears it now its really handy for him if I need something warmer than a sheet, I have tried to find another similar but to no avail where have you seen them? Would definately buy another.

Hooray, someone who actually has one :D I was leaning right towards the 100g just because nobody knew what fleece lined ones were like! Perhaps links would make more sense...

Here's the fleece lined one: http://www.fasttackdirect.co.uk/product-1-11-17090/Rhinegold_Atlanta_Fleece_Lined_Lightweight_Turnout_Rug.html

And the 100g one: http://www.fasttackdirect.co.uk/product-1-11-14781/RHINEGOLD_ARIZONA_Medium__light_weight_100g_fill_Turnout_outdoor_Rug.html

I prefer the look and the price of the fleece, but I just haven't a clue which would be better :)

They look quite good nice price too I may invest in a new one both my horses can have one now, thinking about it its older than fifteen years as it came with my first horse I had her 13 years and she died in 2008 her previous owner had bought the rug when she bought her, its really old proves the old things are best.

The normal neck Bucas rugs are great on arabs and other lightweight breeds, but the big neck version is better for chunkier types. :)

CM has pulled a surcingle off hers this year - however it is not torn, so will be easy to fix and the rug was bought in 2006 and is still waterproof.
