Fleeces as stable rugs??

Do any of you know if its safe enough to use a weatherbeeta fleece as a night time stable rug? Just as its getting a little chilly at nights here is Scotland & I thought i might start putting one on my mare who is stabled at night. The lady in our local tack shop said they are not allowed to recommend their use for that but im not sure if thats to sell more rugs!?
 
I'm in Scotland too :D I use mine at the beginning and end of winter, when it's too cold for him to go naked and not cold enough for a "proper" rug ... been doing it for years and never had a problem.
 
Yeap i use mine at the beginning of winter then add rugs ontop of it during winter then by its self at the end of winter and never had a problem

I think the tack shop assistant meant that they may catch on anything sharp and tear. Theres nothing that it could catch on in my horses stable anyway so thats all good!
 
They do rip quite easily so maybe the risk is that the horse rips it and gets its leg caught however mine had one on the other night and he's still alive. I think people are just afraid of getting sued these days
 
I use them start and end of winter and also underneath heaavy turnout and stable rugs when very cold. do watch if putting under rugs that they dont slip back or move but fine if check them. keeps them toasty but breathable.
 
The only problem with fleeces on at night is that they can slip back and cut into the withers and shoulders. You can get very lightweight stable rugs such as the Weatherbeeta Jasper. I have a fleece that fits my horse quite high up her neck and doesnt slide back, however I dont like them to get covered in shavings etc so dont use them at night.
