It was recommended to me from the Chronicle of the Horse forums that I come over here to ask questions regarding Fleetwater Opposition and his offspring. I bred my mare last spring based on recommendations, but without any real conformation photos... nothing that a short youtube video and the record of his offspring, which speaks for itself.

however, I am curious if anyone has anything resembling a conformation photo of Tyke ? Not that it matters now, but I am just curious.

I have also heard Tyke throws less than ideal conformation, but all are generally athletic and may not be conventionally good jumpers, but have extreme jumping ability. Any other tidbits on generalizations of his foals?

My mare is 7/8 TB and 1/8 ID, though looks more like 1/4 or 1/2 ID. She has excellent feet, an amazing personality and hunter (american hunter) form over fences. She has a hard time collecting herself due to a longer back but has a ton of scope over wide fences and is a slightly above average mover.
This will be her 4th foal.

I was also hoping I could get anyone who had any FO offspring to post photos, I am sure there are many many more in the UK than in the USA!

Can't help with confo pic - in fact if the Future Sports Horse website doesn't show any (they stand a FO stallion son at stud - the rather gorgeous Future Illusion), there might not be any available

However, British Eventing have just published their Top50 sires of 2010 and FO features quite prominently. If you google the names of his most succesful progeny and look at images you might get a better mental picture of what comes out - though obviously you will always be missing the other half of the picture - the DAM!

If you scroll down to Breeding Information, there is an Excel Spreadsheet "Top50 2010 Sires".

Hope that helps a little :D

Big ears, wonky, uneven front legs and feet, quirky, amazing jumping ability when you get them on your side. Bit of a diva. Memory like an elephant and very very intelligent.

I have a 15.2 mare FO x TB and also have a Sec D X New Forest event pony (has evented at 1.10) who is in foal to Future Illusion (FO x with Criminal Law on dam line, and way way back Skippy (Jumbos sire) FI is a stunning looking horse who seems to have lost the defects that his sire often passes on. His dam is very correct though.

A fair while bach Horse and Hound did a 'critical conformation' on Opposition Buzz, I think the conclusion was that forget the 'less than perfect' conformation, these horses operate!

Yep, big ears, wonky front legs (they will go pigeon toed if you give them half a chance) but they do tend to be sound and tough. They can be very opinionated and do not suffer fools gladly AT ALL. But they will go to the ends of the earth for you if they like you.

A lot do not have the most conventional of conformation - a little straight in the hindleg and shoulder (this I think comes from the FO dam line looking at photographs), but they seem to do their job and do it very well, which at the end of the day is what matters!

Personally, I love FO horses, I adore my mare and she has bred me two cracking foals with fantastic attitudes.

Nothing to do with FO but we bred FI's dam's sire, Criminal Law x Demonstrator

I'll toddle off now....

They are a bit like marmite- you either love them or hate them and they'll either love you or hate you!

I love them and get on very well with them but they don't suffer fools gladly and can be extremely opinionated- more than one top event rider over here will not ride them. Educated wrongly they can be nappy little ****** and they all have a natural born tendancy to rear. Get them on your side and they will give you their all.

He has produced a wide variety of different sorts, most are very useful and really jump- not all have Opposition Buzz's unique style, my mare is very rounded and technically correct in her jump. Some don't have much ability but I suppose it depends on the mare.
I havent come across any with wonky legs but most will have an uneven pair of front feet and they tend to be longer rather than shorter in the back and a little upright behind.

Have had 12 or so pass through the yard, currently have 3 by him and 1 grand daughter. I can PM you some pics if you want :)

Some of those last links I couldn't open, said login required.

Thanks guys for all the info! This one I plan to hand raise for my own, so hopefully I'll build a lasting relationship. My mare has exceptional irish feet, and all of her foals thus far (3) have looked exactly like their sire, excluding their size (all 16.3) feet (all like my mare) and muzzle (like my mare). I would KILL for it to inherit the big ears as my mare has those lovely ears that bounce during dressage trot work. My mare's natural tendency was to crow hop when being ridden, so maybe it will just keep all legs on the ground ;)

I know Tyke's breeder quite well and she is a really lovely lady and I am sure if you emailed her or phoned her )phoning possibly better) she will fill you in. he himself had very good movement and was a real competitor. She herself bought another Trakehner stallion, Achtermann, to cross onto the FO daughters as Achtermann had a very level head and suited the more explosive FO stock. The family all really jump, and all want to please and win. As others have said, very sound and tough, not always the best of limbs, but if they stay sound who cares.

this is my homebred FO mare out of a 1/4 Irish x 3/4 TB mare, so similar-ish breeding to your mare.

she has pretty good conf, great feet to look at but near fore has a tilted pedal bone (she's been well trimmed and balanced regularly from birth, no excuses there), is very opinionated, likes to rear especially in the field, loves to buck...
good luck with yours, hope you get a lovely foal.

This is an EXACT description of both the FO fillies I've bred! One has just finished her first season eventing, and the other will be backed in the spring....

Some of what I've had....

My superstar and current event horse, out of a tbxpony mare. Quirky, very picky about who rides her but tries her heart out for me and is actually very easy, so long as you follow her procedure!

And my other FO girl, out of an irish mare. Very quirky but also talented

My sister's 2* horse, he is a little more compliant but has a very quirky nature, out of a mostly tb mare-

Full trakhener, we also had her full brother who was placed at 3* and was a similar stamp-

And her baby (so a FO grand daughter), out of 7/8tb stallion (Weston Justice)

A difficult gelding I had for a bit, out of a wamrblood sj mare, talented but not easy

And a 4yr old that we had in, much bigger than your average FO and very laid back.

TheMule - Do you know what type of mares some of those others were out of (conformation and personalities?)

All of them seem to have a look about them, I can't really pinpoint what it is...They are all gorgeous, and clearly talented!

Kerilli - Your mare is beautiful! What type of mare was she out of?

Hi.

I have a FO homebred. He too is quirky, but very intelligent and sensitive to ride, but that may be from his dam. He has the uneven foot problem too, but thankfully is straight in the legs. Haven't jumped him yet but can only hope. He is forward going, but I would think he would go up if you put the pressure on. The dam was a graded trakehner mare.

First time inserting a photo, so hope it works. He is just backed.

Hi
The best place to look for any details about Tyke (Fleetwater Opposition) is

www.landfordcommonstud.co.uk

He lived there most of his life and I was very lucky to have known him for 20 years! I also have mare by him who is my best friend now 19 years old going on 3!!

Yes Tyke babies are unique and yes, you either love them or not quite so love them. They are the best fun and always surprise you.

All I can say is you will enjoy every moment with your Tyke baby and everyday will be different. They are the most intelligent, funny and loyal horses.

If you need any further details then make contact with the Stud above they can tell you everything you need to know.

I hope this helps?
