I suffer from a dodgy knee due to an old ankle injury and the above has been recommended as a help. any experiences or recommendations. budget is limited as always !

feedback would be grateful.

Many thanks

i have dodgy hips and have found the flexible stirrup irons very helpful. i got mine from e bay quite cheaply as i am on a tight budget but i think robinsons do them in different prices so may be worth a look on their website..

ive been umming and ahhing over getting some of these for my new saddle (as i want to keep my old tack as well so need new everything!) my friend told me that the shires ones are quite good and that she got them for £25 on ebay inc postage... i looked on there and couldnt find any shires ones but there is some rhinegold ones for the same price.... althou my only experience of rhinegold is a very bad fitting lightweight turnout so im not keen! But im watching out for the shires ones to come up.... im on a limited budget to!!!! most my horsey friends are these days! x

Second the Performance Equestrian endurance/soft tread stirrup; I've got a pair and they;re soooooo comfy.

The only snag with them is that you can't run them up like ordinary stirrup irons, you have to cross them over the saddle which makes it a bit bulky and also rather heavy .... but apart from that they're fantastic; you can ride for hours and still be comfortable.

I got some cheap ones from ebay - the make was Castle.....I can't remember the last part of the make. They were only about £27 - I absolutely love them!

or in my case cos I got short legs I have to to...

1 get hoss used to them jiggling
2. be aware of catching on gates etc when leading Taz through narrow gaps

;)

Be careful with the very cheap stirrups rubber, some may not be able to take the strain of demanding work especially (ie bit in rubber snaps). I would be a little carefully of the rhinegold ones personally.
I bought already mentioned compositi reflex stirrups, i like them, wide foot base (helps with soreness), moveable foot plate, and a heaveir base, but still lightweight, so they don't fly up in the air if lost!

Any sort of mid range flexi stirrup should do the job, i've ridden other horses in some and they are easier to keep hold of too.
Some, like MM above, swear by sprengers! But jeez, they are expensive new, especially if you've only got one horse and can't "share" them, think the most are "bow balance ones.
Other ones are called "royal rider" or something like that?!
Also, try some boots with a good footbed, and ones that support your ankle, but that's probabaly a more expensive and possibly less effective option!

which makes would you recommend then ? I have about £40 to spend on them. done 2 hour ride today and knee was killing me !

I have the mountain horse rimfrost boots, they have very good ankle support and thick soled

many thanks

You could try these:
http://www.tmosaddlery.co.uk/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=136

on a pair of cheaper flexi stirrups:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310219352522

Try Google Shopping and you may find them cheaper than in the above links!
Good luck!

WRT to the cheaper copies of the bendy stirrups, I had some Gallop (I think) ones and they snapped the other day while cantering round in the arena.

To be fair, they were old, but it never occured to me to check under the rubbery sides. Once home I checked them and they were completely rusted through on both sides.

I *think* the Sprengers (which I have now, I was lucky enough to find some second hand online) won't rust, but I will be checking from now on!

As already mentioned I use the reflex swivels at £25 or less, but I noticed LIDL have cheap knee supports all sizes at £9.99, I thought about it, as I have one already, but no use for wearing under joddies and too small to wear over them. they would not look too ridiculous if on both knees, and I can live with the laughter!
