Flexi stirrups weight limit?

Looking at the flexi stirrups that are available on eBay, and wondering if anyone knows whether they have a weight limit?

There is a girl on my yard that is 16st and she has no trouble with them, does funrides/hunting. Hope that helps. I've heard of a weight limit for the peacock stirrups with elastic as they will bend and open but no idea of that particular weight limit but it must be lower (12st?)

Which ones on ebay, I had some amidales but replaced them for sprengers as I was unconvinced with the set up under the rubber!

You have to look at the specs for each make. Some - like Sprenger - there is no weight limit because it is a different physical answer. Peacocks have a weight limit because the unsupported lower bar can break under too much weight. Free jumps etc do have a weight limit - but it tends to be a lower limit to have the force to trigger the release.

I would be wary of some on ebay, a friend of mine had one stirrup snap that she got cheap on ebay and we cut open the rubber and they were so poorly made (really thin links) it was amazing they hadn't snapped sooner (she is around 10 stone). I had some JHL ones which had no issues with them whatsoever, well made and had someone who was 15 stone ride in them with no problems.

True 'dat. Although I gulp more than just a little at throwing £170+ at a pair of stirrups. I think I'll just get a plain pair of offset ones and wait to win the lottery :D

Thanks for your help everyone! For clarification, the ones I've been looking at (below), are the offset Amidale ones available from both Amazon and Ebay in the colour I want (yes, I'm sad and want to match them to Big G's saddle pad and fly veil, and eventually my hoodie that I'll be buying soon :o).

I don't like the way they look on this photo, it looks like the offset bit is only held on with a blob of weld.

I know Sprenger cost more, but mine are almost 20 years old and although the rubber tread is not as good as it could be, the rest looks brand new!

This is what my amidales look like underneath, they weren't even that cheap at the time, £35/40 or so. I essentially bought them as a trial to a certain extent and soon replaced them with sprengers. They did spend some time on my dressage saddle on the basis that if one broke while dressaging it wouldn't be the end of the world compared to hacking or hunting
