I am thinking about getting a pair of these as I get sore ankles/knees/feet if we have been out hacking for a couple of hours or more. Has anyone got any? I have just looked on fleabay and you can get them on there for £20 but not sure if they are as good as the more expensive ones from the tack shop.

Has anyone got any experience of them?

Thanks

Tricksy

I have the shockingly expensive Sprenger ones, they have been fantasic for my seriously dodgy knees. YO bought cheaper ones but they only flexed one way and squeaked horribly!

My saddle is quite comfy, I find that if I drop my stirrups any more then my feet move forward in them. I know thats down to bad positioning but I'm working on it

iv got shires ones iv got abount 4 pairs as got alot of horses and always in the saddle iv had them for 3 years they are grat i hate riding in normal ones know you will really notice the diffrence

i found they hurt my ankles more(bad ankle from previous brake) and they made me bend my ankles too far-if that makes sense. i found a sheepskin fur seat saver and letting my stirrups down a hole or two for hacking work wonders.

I have a bad ankle from 3/4 of a ton of horseflesh deciding to land on it TWICE!!!
Have cheapo ones from robinsons and I wouldnt be wihout them, im sure the expensive ones are probably better but mine work just fine! They only let my ankles drop further if i force them down which is never a good thing to do!!!

I've got expensive ones (not so expensive as I bought them off SN and she may have been drunk when we haggled...

) and some cheapo ones (I think they're Funnell range... or possibly Shires) the cheapo ones have fewer links (the bendy bit is like a bit of bicycle chain) but they do the job just as well!

I have the willaim funnell ones too on both of my saddles and when i ride other horses i have to swap them onto any saddle i ride in.

I have very bad knees and after lots of surery from my teens they are the only ones that relieve my pain.

They are brill they bend both ways easily and dont squeak at all.

I would highly reccommend them.

THe bend one ways ones can be dangerous as there have been cases of them bending and trapping the foot. There was talk of banning them for a while. Th multi directional ones are alot safer, which is why they are more expensive. If you dont want to fork out for the Sprengers, the thorowgood T6 stirrups are fab, and about £40 cheaper. I have a pair of the cheapy stirrpud on my Dressage saddle, and the THorowgoods on my Jump, nd you can really tell the difference. they are fab.

I've had a set of spreengers since they first came out, they have been super and the ribber and treads are still perfect - however also have the W Funnel ones and the ribber is drying out and cracking already !

just to change the subject.... how are your girls knees after her tumble?

She is fine thank you, they are healing up nicely, not a sign of lameness (thank goodness) but I am still giving her a couple of days off. One of them was a bit warm yesterday but it was fine this morning

I've just found the new Sprenger Bow Flexi Stirrups on the net for £79.95

thats £30 cheaper than the RRP and £6 cheaper than I can find the normal ones for. Now do I take the plunge and get the expensive ones and if I don't get on with them I can probably sell them for what I paid ?? or do I wait until I get to Burghley and see if there are any there (nah not such a great idea hubby will see how much I am paying for some stirrups!!)

TBH i have tried both and couldnt tell the difference between my william funnell ones and the sprengers.

Some of the cheapies dont flex all ways but the one i have do. Some have more flex than others ( i can flip mine so they bend right in half! ).

Try your tack shops and shop around a bit. Wouldnt buy the from ebay unless id seen the brand in the flesh to look at.

I was just trying to sweet talk my hubby into thinking that it was a good idea to get some new stirrups and he has just bought me the Sprenger ones

I was just about to say that I love my Sprengers - can't ride in normal stirrups now, just too uncomfy! I think they're supposed to be safer that the cheaper ones too
