I was just wondering if other people had found them successful, my mare is suspiciously full when she comes in and hasn’t lost any weight however it is early days and she prefers it to the other brands I’ve tried.

I absolutely love mine. It’s been the difference for my pony who hates every other muzzle living a normal life, being out with my other two and being stabled all the time.
When I first bought it I was p’d off at having spent that money on something so insignificant but it’s been a life saver/changer

They’re good muzzles. However, if the noseband’s loose enough, some horses manage to eat extra by eating through the sides. Might be worth observing your mare for a bit to see if that’s why she’s full.

That’s positive it’s working for you @poiuytrewq it may need re adjusting like you say @stangs as she is definitely fuller than she was in the other muzzles I bought that one as she hated the others she tried, she likes this one but is putting weight on I’ve left her in on soaked hay today and tonight feeling like the worst owner ever I hate her been in unnecessarily but she is over weight and the sun and rain have been crazy these past few days

It may be too wide or the nose band too wide. If they're fitted correctly they can eat out of the sides. Mine is doing very well with it

Mine has been fantastic. My horse is out in it and has lost about 40kg since I got it at the beginning of June, according to the weigh tape. He has never balked at having it on either.

The instructions say to have it 1-2 holes shorter at the sides than the other 6 straps to stop them eating that way.

They’re fantastic. My boy has put on a bit of weight due to me having a slipped disc and his subsequent holiday, but I’m certain he’d be a hippo without it one also watched him groom other horses with it on so it doesn’t appear to affect his behaviour at all

I do have that problem with it. Mine eats through the side rather than the hole, I think that’s an adjustment issue. I figure it still restricts him.
As above I’d try tightening it all up a bit.

mine lives in his 24/7 - it's the only one that never rubs or upsets him so he can keep it on permanently. His waistline and joints have been grateful for it and he's come through the summer leaner, happier and more athletic than when he had his greenguard. I use the greenguard when the grass is long still as I like him to be able to get herbs and hedge all of which ha can access with the greenguard but at some point as the grass gets shorter it inectiably rubs him. The flexible filly has never rubbed. We're in year 2!

I have them on my two five year old Foresters. They are very good. One can manage to eat windfall apples through them! They don’t seem to find depressing or have face rubs. They do manage to bust off the cable ties on wooden fencing or trees though, they need regular checking and replacement.

How long did it take your horses to get use to wearing one?

My mare couldn’t work it out at all when I put it on for a hour last month. She was clueless.

Going to try again tomorrow because they are going into the winter field full of grass, hopefully if leave her for a few hours she will get on with it?

No time at all, but he's worn a muzzle before. When I put the bucket muzzle on it took hm a while - I watched from behind a hedge to check, as if he saw me he'd stop.

It took several hours for one of my Foresters, but I think he was cross about it so he couldn’t settle, the other one only took about an hour.

Did you make the hole bigger? The first one I bought I thought the hole was too small, so I made it a bit bigger and my horse put on weight. I had to buy another one and left the hole and it works perfectly.

Mine is expert at eating through the sides so have cable tied at the top as well. I think he’s still too fat but been wearing it continually since May. No rubs and happily has it on. Rears if you try to put on an enclosed one!

One of mine split and they replaced it no issues, but I can’t remember if it was within 90 days.
I’ve been using them for years and it was the only one that split, though I had cut the hole a bit bigger.

I've had one split, and one lost an 'arm' completely. I just cable tie it back together and carry on using them.
Both horses have been using them on and off for a couple of years now

I'm usually very keen on unbranded knock offs but in this case I feel that the product is good enough to justify coughing up all that money, which presumably pays for the design of the muzzle and the setup of the company. I've also used it 24/7 on a horse who needed to lose weight and it didn't rub and he didn't seem to find it distressing. Everything is a trade off with horses - if you want something that's soft enough not to rub but also sufficiently well designed to work properly, I think you have to accept that it may be a) slightly less robust than a hard plastic and nylon muzzle, and b) more expensive.

As @mavandkaz says, I'd just cable tie the broken bits back together and carry on. Horses will trash anything given enough time.

My mares been wearing her flexible filly muzzle and head collar for 4 days now. She’s quite happy in it.

I noticed today she came in rather full.. I’m wondering if she’s eating out the side. How can that be stopped?

I did make the hole 3.5/4cm big compared to the standard 3cm.

ETA, the noseband isn’t adjustable on the headcollar which is the FF one.

Mine has put loads of weight on wearing one. He eats out of the side. I’ve tried adding cable ties horizontally at the top of the fins. I will have to change it next year. Written it off for this.

you can use cable ties to make the longer bits fit more closely (if that makes sense) so they can't eat out of the side as easily but mine still managed it.

BH was mortified to find that I muzzled him this summer. He tried a normal bucket muzzle but that rubbed quite high up. The Flexible Filly one I hated as it seemed that the front strips always landed on his nostrils, but it never did rub and he always seemed OK. He didn't blow up like an elephant, so it obviously worked.
