Anyone else have their dog on it???

I have just been reading some of the blurb and it says that the first dose should be a double one

My vet didnt mention this, so he didnt get it... (yesterday) Is it worth doubling up today or shall I just leave it....?

Any feedback from stiff limpy dog owners that have used it on their dogs would be great

Hi, if the drug in flexicam is meloxicam then I can recommend it. It's an NSAID (non steroidal anti-inflammatory) so the human equivalent would be ibuprofen. My two oldies are both on it (under the brand of Metacam) and it helps their creaky old joints no end. Don't bother double dosing now - just carry on with the normal dose.

Also worth asking your vet about Hills J/D diet which has made a massive difference to my 14yo labrador. There is good clinical evidence to support the effectiveness of EHA in it (and no I don't work for Hills !!!!).

Ancient dogs can also benefit from Vivitonin or Fitergol which helps blood flow to their muscles (including heart) and brain -so helps with muscle tone and early signs of forgetfulness/senility.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the replies Star and Lliedi .....

I think its the same as Metacam as this is what they said they would give him first of all..... but didnt have it..... only had Flexicam

I will look at the Hills stuff, but it used to cost me an arm and a leg to feed my old Boxer and was hoping to avoid it with this dog

He isnt that ancient yet.... only 7 so its a shame that he is all stiff already

i have a 5yr old and a 7yr old - both of them crocks! dont bother with j/d - just feed normal food and add something like Synoquin or another glucosamine/chondroitin supplement - makes the same thing but a lot cheaper! my doggies are on Synoquin and it really helps them. Metacam gives my bitch an upset tummy so we just keep her on Synoquin.

Is it Hinkley or Hankley??

Merlin has been living a life of complete idleness since November...... I rode him for the first time today......

It was really quite scary...

Not only did we have to go past the piglets.... but the local pheasant shoot arrived when I was next to the field they shoot in........ Not good

I will see how fit I can get him in a week

But he could cope with a shorter version of before

oh, yeah - tis only a week away isn't it?! no idea if hinkley or hankley - but was good fun! otherwise will have another friday off beginning of march or wed off at end of feb

Llewi is so fit at the moment it's scary - I cant actually wear him out now!

Probably more realistic to say the end feb/beg march

Its weird though.... however much time he has off, he still feels the same.... like he could go forever!!

I am just aware of his manky leg and would not want to be a boring companion...... But give it a month and Wahooooooo!!!

ok, cool. i have dodgy legged Dan back now so i know what it's like to be looking after the leggies
smile.gif
Dan still tries to gallop everywhere and he's completely unfit - they never learn!
