My old mare is covered in tiny black flies all over her teats. I had to keep rubbing them off her stomach part as well. But by the time I left last night, they were all over her again. I noticed they wasn't all over the mare that is in foal though.
I have used the spray & they only last around an hour. If your lucky that is.
Has anyone used anything that works! & is long lasting. I have been using garlic, but not for long. Any help at all would be great.

I used fly cream on the mare I had on loan as she used to get flies there too. I also now use it on my gelding as he sometimes gets little black flies near his man bits. I think it's supposed to be for cattle but it works a treat. Bright yellow stuff so it looks awful but it doesn't sink in like most other things, just sits on the skin as more of a barrier. V good stuff.

They are really annoying. I use dettol, essential oils and avon skin so soft that I mix up which helps. Sudocream mixed with a little esssential oil is also good, but the buggers do get stuck in it.

My solution and not cheap, is I have snuggy bodies for them which have sheath and udder covers - no more sore bellies and rubbing. You do need to remove the covers at least every other day, I just dip them in a bucket of water with a splash of dettol to rinse them, then they go straight back on as they quickly dry out. Takes only a couple of minutes to do.

if you get in touch with the sweet itch society they do a barrier ointment its called gold ointment :-) its brilliant stuff just smear it on its very mild as well. I use it on my horses sheaths, you can also mix it with sudocrem for sore spots.
