My old mare is covered in tiny black flies all over her teats. I had to keep rubbing them off her stomach part as well. But by the time I left last night, they were all over her again. I noticed they wasn't all over the mare that is in foal though.
I have used the spray & they only last around an hour. If your lucky that is.
Has anyone used anything that works! & is long lasting. I have been using garlic, but not for long. Any help at all would be great.

Hi there,
I find that all along my mares mid line and her teats are v tasty to the horrid flys. I've yet to find a fly spray that works, so I use netex itch stop on her teats, around her back legs (all the bits that have less hair) and under her belly, all along her mid line. This keeps her fly free and happy for several days. http://www.net-tex.co.uk/product_page.cfm?pid=233&men=3 It does say it lasts 7 days - I don't think you get enough protection from it to say it lasts that long so I re-apply it after a ride if she has got a bit sweaty and needs a rinse, or every 3 or 4 days - which ever is the shortest. It is pricey (about £20 a tub), but you don't need loads and it does actually work! I find a tub does one mare for most of the summer.
hth!

My mare gets this - in fact, there was a post about it at the end of last week.

I use fly spray and it works, but in the past when she was in a field with a river at the bottom it was a lot worse, and I used green oils (gel) with brilliant results.
