Despite being ultra clean in the stable, the whole yard is suffering from a plague of flies. I know they use something like a 'Vapona Strip' in the USA, but has anyone here in the uk had any success with them or anything else to eradicate the menace, as much as one can?

I remember we used to be able to get the good old "Vapona" air strips to go in the house, BUT now the Europrats say that the chemicals in them are dangerous, so its "safer" to have a fly crawl over your lettuce (having crawled on god-knows-what beforehand) than to have something to keep them away. You couldn't make it up!!

Sorry I've not answered your question. Don't know is the answer, but I'd be very interested in whether anyone knows of a solution to this! Blimmin flies.

Hi They sell those hangy sticky things in tescos, not sure how good they are though. I have heard of a product called Raid being good but again not sure around horses, although you can use it in the home so it should be ok.
hope this helps good luck:)

I scrubbed my stable top to bottom last weekend in an attempt to get rid of the blighters but to no avail. Bloody things. Never see them out of the stable, just loads inside.

Someone at the yard uses the sticky hangy things but still has flies in there.

My dad sprays raid around his windows at home and says in stops the flies coming in but not sure I'd fancy that near the horses!

Check under your matts for wee. We had a problem in the end stable even though it was clean but when we lifted the matt alot of wee had collected in a dip in the floor. We know to keep and eye on that now and also have those fly strips which do a good job at catching them.
