My horse keeps getting bitten by flies but he absolutely hates rugs as he’s such a hot horse. I use carr&day&martin fly spray but it doesn’t seem to help much, does anyone know any other ways to help him with the flies
All fly sprays I find are rubbish these days. I can recommend cattle summer fly cream. Does help and last. I also use cattle drench ?. Skin patch test first but been using it for a few years now as it’s the only think to actually work. One of mine doesn’t hate fly rugs but he loves to destroy them.
Battles summer fly cream on their 'underside' sensitive parts & Leovet Phaser on the rest. Fly mask on the one who'll keep it on as the other takes it off & chews it up!!
Pretty much the same as above- Battles fly cream for the pink bits between her hind legs which can get bitten so badly they bleed then Leovet Power Phaser all over.
Rambo fly mask all summer, hogged and feathers off all year round. Fly rug only if I know it’s going to rain so that she has protection until I can get down and spray more at her!
Last year she was much more bothered by flies and then Deosect is the only thing the vet will recommend (along with constant fly rugging) but it’s powerful stuff and smells like paint stripper so I use it as a final resort.
My local feed store sells these, they don’t smell too good but are great at catching flies - we hang one on all the field shelters so horses have ‘safe spot’.
Battles summer fly cream and Biteback fly repellent here. I was using Deosect fortnightly too which I may go back to because I have one that hates sprays. I wouldn’t use a fly rug as I don’t like the thought of them being rugged all year.
