Hi,

Only 5 more days until Coco arrives, I have a very excited daughter..
Quick question, we have a fly rug and face veil but do we also need sprays? If so what does everyone recommend?
Thanks all ?

We use Naff-off fly spray in combination with a fly mask - we only use a fly rug if the flies are really bad as our boy is not a big fan and tends to get quite hot. If he's wearing a rug we'll do a quick spray of his tummy and inside of his legs as the rug doesn't protect those bits

I second the suggestions of Naf Off (Citronella) and Phaser. They dont sell Naf off over here so I’ve gone back to using Phaser for all of mine currently.

I would also rug up then spray the bits that the rug doesn’t cover. Ive never had an issue spraying under and around their bits with the spray but I’d advise perhaps a patch test on a delicate area just to check, some of the sprays are potent (Phaser in particular), spray when you are up wind too, it’s a hard lesson learnt when you get a face full (and lips) of Phaser but on the plus side it kept me fly free all day too! ?

pics to help, in case you’re not sure, most of the UK tack shops have a good range, so either should be easy to get. Apart from our elderly mini, we tend to keep all others rug free with just fly masks and spray on (eldest mini has sweet itch - which very basically means he reacts to bites very badly), you may find Coco might just need a fly mask rather than a rug but it is definitely worth having one in your “trunk”.

I get the ‘up wind’ analogy, learnt that lesson but not with fly spray lol..
Thanks for the info, it’s so hot and humid currently we may just fly mask him and spray all over, but like you say we have the rug just in case ?? Thank you ?
